We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devin, why did you pursue a creative career?
Growing up, I dreamed of becoming a TV or movie star, but my family always stressed the importance of education. In 2013, I moved from Augusta, Georgia, to Atlanta for college, and it was there that my uncle suggested I explore sports reporting, knowing my deep passion for basketball. Intrigued by the idea, I pursued it throughout college and into my early career, working as a TV news reporter in Augusta (2018–2020) and Columbia, SC (2020–2021).

While I valued those experiences, I knew my true calling lay elsewhere. My ultimate dream has always been to host a national TV show—a platform dedicated to spotlighting up-and-coming creatives and rising stars. I want the show to carry the cultural weight of legends like Johnny Carson or Arsenio Hall, a stage that signifies you’re on the cusp of greatness.

The pandemic was a turning point that reshaped my life. I realized I was no longer fulfilled as a news reporter, and staying in that role felt like settling. So, I took a leap of faith, leaving my job in Columbia to chase my vision full-time. It was a bold and uncertain move, but it gave me the freedom to fully commit to my dreams. Looking back, it was the moment that defined my journey and set me on the path I was always meant to follow—and I haven’t regretted it for a second.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is built on storytelling, humor, and creating meaningful connections around topics that truly resonate. My goal every time is to entertain, inspire, and spark genuine engagement with my audience.

I’ve experienced the exhilaration of feeling like I was on top of the world, only to realize I hadn’t even begun. I’ve also faced moments where it felt like my entire world was crumbling, leaving me gasping for air. Those experiences have become the fuel that drives me to chase my goals relentlessly. They’ve shaped me into someone who refuses to settle for less than what I’m capable of achieving. That’s what sets me apart in my journey.

Getting to this point hasn’t been easy. One of the biggest turning points came when I lost my job as a social media coordinator with the New York Knicks in late 2023. That moment forced me to take a hard look at my life. For almost 31 years, I’d been coasting, playing it safe. Moving back to my hometown of Augusta, Georgia, after a year in NYC, I had to completely reinvent myself. It hasn’t been without challenges—some days are tougher than others—but opportunities like this interview remind me that I’m on the right track.

I’ve learned so much along the way, but the biggest lesson has been the importance of consistency and exceeding expectations. If you want people to notice your work or talent, you have to deliver more than they expect, every single time.

At its core, my brand is about more than just my own success. It’s about uplifting and inspiring the next generation of creatives. Part of my mission is shining a light on those who are often overlooked, giving them a platform to be seen and celebrated.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, we’d start with my go-to spot: The Battery Atlanta. Yes, it might seem like a popular choice, but that’s because it truly has something for everyone! Whether you’re in the mood for shopping, indulging in amazing food, grabbing drinks, or catching a game, this place is a one-stop destination. Plus, there’s nothing like the energy of a Braves game—it’s electric, even if you’re not a hardcore baseball fan. Plus I’m very bad when comes to going out. I’m not a planner… I just get up and go with the flow.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Throughout my journey, I’ve been blessed with an incredible support system that’s been my foundation every step of the way. My sister and aunt have always been in my corner, celebrating every win and lifting me up when I needed it most. But the true driving force behind everything I’ve achieved is my mom. She’s been my rock, my motivator, and my biggest believer—always encouraging me to dream bigger, aim higher, and never settle. Her unwavering faith in me has fueled my determination to keep pushing forward. To my mom, sister, and aunt—thank you for being my guiding lights and my greatest champions!
