We had the good fortune of connecting with Lawrence Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lawrence, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I guess I just thought about the people that needed exposure but couldn’t get it because of their finances or because of the political nature of the industry in Atlanta. I wanted to help those artists, or models or whatever.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My company, EbonVision Media, actually began when I was trying to be a hip hop artist. I witnessed first hand how hard it was to get in front of the right people. In Atlanta if you dont have access to certain people, or the money to pay for certain doors to open then you might as well stop trying. There are exceptions of course, but that is pretty much the norm. So my plan started off with a magazine, COMBiNE Magazine. That lead to a stint on A.U.M.A. Radio. And being on radio helped inform my decision to start a Media company.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That is a hard question, because I’m always working. But I’ve always wanted to try Turkey on the Loose in Riverdale. But after that I’d probably head back to the office to finish editing these podcasts, or get back on the phone to make these advertising deals. I’m the wrong person to hang out with, my apologies.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have quite a few people that have helped me recognize the need for what I do, or attempt to do. My wife Ranita Carter and all of my kids for allowing me the freedom to create. My business partners E. Todd and RinaKreeps for allowing me the space to make mistakes without condemnation. And the people that trust me with their vision.
