Meet DJ DBNR

We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ DBNR and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DJ, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve been drawn to music since I was about 8 years old. I can still remember the first time I heard Sonique’s “Feel So Good” on the local radio station and how it completely captivated me from the rhythm to the vocals. From that very moment, I knew I wanted a career in music. I find immense joy in expressing my thoughts and emotions through music. Curating a setlist, producing a track, or going to hear other DJ/Producers allows me to explore new ideas and gather inspiration.
For me, the greatest reward is when someone tells me how my work has affected them or inspired them.
A creative career offers endless opportunities for learning and growth. I’m excited by the challenges and new skills that come with every project, and I’m always eager to push the boundaries of my own creativity.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from other DJs is that I have a natural ear for music. I like to pull the music apart while I’m listening to it. I’ll strip away the vocals, kick, snare, and high hats just to hear the baseline. To me, the baseline is the soul if the song. I’m glad i’ve made it to this stage in music because I still have a deep love and passion for it. I’m still learning with every experience and opportunity that I have.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m mostly a Wednesday – Sunday person so i’ll take them to:
Wednesday: Wine Down Wednesday with friends
Thursday: Staring at MidCity Cafe to hear some of my faves play or stop by MJQ
Friday: See if there is a spot that they want to checkout
Saturday: AlleyCat/Desires/Konekt/Tambor Party or anywhere that is playing some good house music
Sunday: Anywhere that has bottomless mimosas then Piedmont Park to relax

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother for making sacrifices to make sure that I had what I needed when it came to music growing up.
