We had the good fortune of connecting with Khae McLean and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khae, how do you think about risk?
You can’t live comfortably without taking risk! I believe that is a ma hot key in life. Even though it is a scary thought, living with the what if’s can be even scarier. A lot of major companies started off as just an idea and the risk of going for it. If it wasn’t for me taking that leap i wouldn’t have created a company that has helped so many people feel comfortable in their skin! Nor would i have found my passion and what truly makes me happy. Plus it helped me accomplish so many fears especially the fear of failure, you never know what you are capable of doing until you do it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When i originally started out it was attire directed to women who identified as fem! Over time i noticed that i was emotionally detaching from what i was creating an i wasn’t in love with my brand anymore. At first i thought it was because i was starting to overwork myself but after a while i realized it was because i didn’t see myself or the love in what i was creating. I am a person who has so many dimensions so why would i create a one dimensional brand! I got tired of seeing brands being labeled to one demographic when it’s just items/objects that can target so many people once we break those barriers the imagination is limitless. It’s definitely not something that is easy to do. Everyday you have people who are 100% against what you have to bring to the table but just like in life everything is a risk! The reward at the end is so comforting though. There are people who struggle everyday to be themselves so having a space to where they can feel included is what fuels me to keep going! We are an all inclusive brand no matter your gender, size, sexuality… we are here for you!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came into town i have to take her to vortex in Little 5. She loves a good burger and who can pass up a $3 mystery shot! Then we would go thrifting cause you can never forget where you came from the finds be finding!!! The next day i will probably take her to Roswell Mill. We have always been ladies of the outdoors. Being one with nature is really big to us, you always have to remember to ground yourself so touching grass is a must. We definitely are going to Six Flags cause we love rollercoasters and ending our nights going bar hoping in midtown dancing the night away as if we were back in Florida! Moondogs for Karaoke and getting her to try Jenis ice cream and the Bando for some wings is a must.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s so many people i could thank but that would take forever. But I would love to give a special thank you to Lotus Rosery for helping me get my start years ago without yal i probably would have been loss in starting to find my way in ATL, my nail tech Tierra from TopTips by T being my sounding board throughout everything and still being able to help keep my head above water, the LGBTQ+ community for always supporting me even when i take forever in between drops and thru this transition with the brand, and my Dad for always keeping my head up when i am mentally crashing behind the scenes when no one is looking!
