We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting BigHeaded Hair was simple, I loved the way I felt after a day of getting glammed up. I loved the extra boost of confidence I felt, and wanted to give that same feeling to women. I’m a girls girl, and I love making other people feel confident about themselves, whether it’s words of encouragement, or providing a service for someone. BigHeaded Hair was created with love and will always be a business that stands on spreading love, creativity, and beauty.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve been through a long and tough journey. I graduated from Empire Beauty School in 2013, in hope of doing makeup. I soon realized that my passion was actually in hair. I’ve worked endlessly in many salon in Atlanta networking and building my business. I was molded into the stylist I am today by sitting under and assisting talented stylist who took out the time to show and help me to perfect my craft. This journey was not an easy one, as the hair industry is a very inconsistent industry, you have to always be prepared. There were times when I felt like, me doing hair would not last because my clientele was not where I wanted it to be. Even though I loved my profession, I was still an adult with responsibilities. There were times when I had another job as well as being a cosmetologist. I even decided to go back to cosmetology school to further my cosmetology career. Needless to say, I always felt comfortable doing hair and felt like this was always the right decision. I’ve learned that sometimes, people may not support you like YOU expect them to, but as long as you keep going, and do things to help further and better your skill, you’ll never fail in this industry.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a home body, I don’t go out much but when I do, I loveee going to the park. Piedmont Park is my favorite place to enjoy nature. They have the BEST vegan soy hot dogs. When I’m not at the park, I love to go to the drive in theater. When it come to food, best believe I’m a foodie. Whether it’s my favorite New Orleans inspired cuisine Shrimp and Grits from the Food Shoppe, to my favorite all time pizza spot Edgewood Pizza.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out to Chioma from Bxplicit for molding me into the stylist I am today. She showed me nothing but grace and love and I’m forever grateful for her!
