We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Milk and Honey after having my daughter, Miller. I had a few outfits gifted to us, and thought, “I can do this!” I purchased a machine off of Facebook Marketplace, picked it up, and started learning. As I taught myself, my business grew, and I quickly outgrew my small machine. I took the leap to invest in my business, as I began creating outfits and gifts for friends and family. Milk and Honey grew as people trusted me with their purchase, and continued coming back.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Embroidery is a tough world to be creative and unique in. You have to really find your “style” and engage buyers. I am very proud of how far my brand has grown, and especially doing all of this while being a mom of two and having a full time job.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We currently live in Smyrna, outside of Atlanta, and I would take a visitor to a Braves game and a few favorite lunch spots! My social life is much different with kids, but I love the suburbs of Atlanta and raising a family here.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My children, for inspiring many ideas, and my husband for supporting me every step of the way. He helped me, encouraged me, and pushed me to grow.
