We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyrongela Denise Finley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyrongela Denise, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
If you have gained more joy, knowledge, work ethic, motivation, skills, money, etc…..than when you first started in your career, then you should be determined not to give up. Life always throws challenging situations our way. Every day that God allows us the opportunity to get up day after day, is another opportunity to think about what we want to do next with our lives, take accountability and make adjustments to our wrongs and mistakes. Learning how to encourage yourself plays a big role. A lot of times we look for validation from others and it can become a little overwhelming which makes the mind easily think and feel we should give up. If you can surround yourself with someone you can openly communicate with and support your ideas, dreams, etc… with out judgment. It is easy to give up and harder to challenge yourself. Give yourself the opportunity to except challenges in life.

Tyrongela Denise Finley is my name. Denise The Blue Hairstylist is what I am called. Yep my hair is usually blue. Blue is my signature. The color blue represents both the sky and the sea and is associated with open spaces, freedom, intuition, imagination, inspiration, and sensitivity. Blue also represents meanings of depth, trust, loyalty, sincerity, wisdom, confidence, stability, faith, and intelligence. Im an exuberant of the color. I have been a hairstylist and my own boss since I was 20. One day I got tired of clocking in on other’s clocks, so I definitely had to become an entrepreneur. I had my daughter at a young age so I had to figure a lot of things out quick financially. .I have always been creative and like to take things apart and put them together. So I went to Hair school. Over the years, hair have taken my down a lot of avenues . I’ve invested in mant continued education classes. You have to stay sharp and up-to-date in your career. I’m a licensed Cosmetology Instructor, I have done celebrities hair, hair and fashion shows, photo shots, got hair pictures published in various hair magazines, featured on an advance instructional weaving dvd, done platform work at hair shows, won hair and braiding competitions and I’m a hairstylist for tv/film. Also my daughter and I have an online hair extension business called D&A Hair Extensions. www.dahairextensions.com. God has blessed my hands to do more than I could have ever imagined.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would have to go to a Mexican restaurant or a bar and eat and drink. Usually the food and drinks are great. If there are suggestions and they sound like fun thing to go do and see I’m down for it. I always like to be on the go.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank God for creating in me gifts and talents to share with the world. I would like to give a big thanks to my mother for loving me through my good and bad and never giving up on me. I didn’t alway do what she wanted me to do or the right thing to do growing up. I was tge middle child of 3 so it has always felt like i had to find my place where i fit in, so that always make me stand out. A statistic is what i was, having a child at 18. A lot of people counted me out. Well it became my motivation to prove to myself and everyone else that I can still succeed and have a great future by trying to do my best and go beyond the moment I was in. Being a single parent was not what I envisioned at a young age. I was still young just trying to figure it out. I had God and still do at the forefront of my life. It took a lot of prayer to keep my mind in check. I want to thank my daughter for not being too upset that I had to work a lot to make ends meet. Times that I needed to spend with her, Never had I ever missed those most important times in her life where she wanted or needed your parent there. My career always gave me flexibility with time. I want to give a big Shout out to Candace Neal for helping to grow my business over the years. She is the diamond in my life that I will always appreciate and admire. Also giving a big Shout out to Deaundra Metzger for making what I dreamed about for years come to fruition. She is my pearl that God has placed in my life and a joy to have in my life. Many hugs goes out to thus one. I would like to also thank Brenda Hill for her words of love and encouragement when I wanted to quit over the years. She made me snap back into reality which I needed in my life. Thank you dearly.
