Meet Layd (Lady) Maé (May) | Professional entertainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Layd (Lady) Maé (May) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Layd (Lady), what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Moving at my own set pace. It’s not the same as moving on your own time or anyone else’s. It’s you making a conscious decision on how you will get things done that works best for you. This way you’re not over working yourself and draining your energy with unhealthy speeds.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an entertainer at heart! I love to put a smile on people’s face with my animated style and big personality/energy! It’s hard not to feel good or welcome when I’m in the room. I sing, rap, dance, act, draw, fashion design, model, Ect! Anything that has to do with the entertainment business I’m a pro at it! But I’m also an activist who fights for prisoners rights while incarcerated and helping bring attention to the system that needs changing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First I’d start off at my favorite local restaurant Bubbles Posh Pizza! It’s a great atmosphere in the upper west side of Manhattan’s Washington heights area. It’s family friendly and such an upscale place to dine in. The owner is such a sweet heart. Then we are going to Bubbles Salon (same owner as the posh pizza) we would get a full set (hands + toes) and our hairs done too! Next we are going to my favorite black owned gaming bar CoExist in Midtown manhattan. I get a plus one with my membership and it’s unlimited games (PlayStation, Xbox, computer, arcade, Ect) music, and live performances too. It’s such a cultural space full of good times and fun events. Then we would visit my favorite music studio in the Bronx, Plug studio. We can sit with the engineer and talk about song ideas and listen to instrumentals together and come up with something dope!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to BPI (Bard Prison Initiative!) And shout out to the Prison Brain Trust with their works in prison reform/abolishing and education. They always remind me what I do it for.
