We had the good fortune of connecting with Desteni Dominick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desteni, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to be in the beauty industry because I enjoy how creative you can get and how many hats you can wear. Beauty isn’t one size fits all; you have to choose what fits you. When I started out in the beauty industry I was a lash tech in 2019 and I learned quickly that I needed to be a Licensed Esthetician in my state to be a lash tech. Once I got my esthetics license in 2021 I then became a body sculpture and as I educated myself more about corrective skincare I knew that this is exactly what I want my career to be. Being in the beauty industry means you can grow and you can learn so many ways to give a “look.” Whether it’s a facial, makeup, body sculpting, a permanent makeup artist etc. Me enjoying being a creative person and knowing that I’ve always wanted a career in the skincare world helps me be creative with skincare plans, treatments, and products. Being creative helps me help my clients reach their healthy skin goals!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I decided to become a Licensed Esthetician because I’ve enjoyed skincare since middle school. I’ve also had my own challenges with my skin such as acne, dry/dehydrated skin and pigmentation. When I finally got the chance to go to school to get my licenses I didn’t immediately take up facials and skincare because I had to further my education with the core keys to skincare. So I took the easy route and chose body sculpting. It was short lived because I knew I had a true passion for skincare. Furthering my education with skincare specifically has help me understand the importance of gut health, the skin barrier, and the ingredients in products. I’ve been able to give my clients the results they have been looking for. I think that me choosing corrective skincare sets me apart from other skincare businesses because I give my clients treatments that give them real results and not just a hydrating/relaxing facial. I’m excited to continue furthering my education about skin, skincare products and nutrition to better serve my clients. Being where I am in my career today has taken and is going to continue to take patience, dedication, discipline and prayer. Nothing about being a business owner is easy and I never expected it to be but seeing how much confidence my clients have after their treatments make it worth it! I’ve learned to bet on myself, forget all the outside noise and focus on the lane that I’ve been placed in. Pure Lotus Skin can help you reach your healthy skin goals!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I enjoy a nice morning walk to get the day started then go to a small brunch spot like Copeland’s or Toast on Lenox. I’d go to Ponce city market or the Atlanta battery to do something fun and creative. And do it all over again during the week she’s in town. Some more activities would be bowling at Midtown bowl, pottery, wine tasting, tacos at Tacos and tequila in Ponce city market. We would also have to get in a hike and some shopping at the farmers market. We also enjoy a simple day of self-care and relaxing so Spa Land or Jeju in Duluth is where we would go for massages, body scrubs and facials.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my mentor Michelle Flavius! Thank you so much for everything you’ve done to help me bring Pure Lotus Skin to life! She wouldn’t be what she is if I didn’t have you with me every step of the way. I love you!
Love, Desi
