We had the good fortune of connecting with Curtis Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Curtis, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
This is not the industry for fast money, it’s a slow grind and a constant grind, but very rewarding if you have the passion and the patience to endure it until the foundation is built and you’re able to reap the benefits.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What we offer is the message to Always Respect Time as it’s the most valuable thing we have, we can’t rush the future and we can’t relive the past, so always be progressive in all that we do, taking inspiration and lessons from the past, being present and taking in the now, and always thinking and planning for the future. We package this mostly through delivering quality garments that will last, and through our support of ALL forms of ART as we believe everything is art, this allows us to be relatable to EVERYONE. I got here through a deep passion and a lot of research, I didn’t go to school for it, I just immersed myself and became a sponge and still am today, it’s by no means easy but I love the constant challenge and problem solving, building something and being able to look back on the journey and enjoy the fruits of what you planted. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is just the patience and grace I have to give myself as well as others, as humans we are all here just trying to figure it out, on our own grind, on our own journey, give people the same grace you’d want from them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As much as I love food it’s hard to not list a thousand food places here, but DC is such a beautiful place and it has EVERYTHING you would want, obviously we have all the museums and monuments but once you get past that I encourage everyone to stop by a carry out, get you some chicken wings and mumbo sauce, my preferred spot is Howard China which is near the historic Howard University. Happy hour spots I would say The Alumni Spot which has a late happy hour, a DJ, sometimes live performances, and The Booth Experience where you can get your “Class Photo” taken. Never Looked better is a speakeasy with nice vibes and great drinks, or Cafe Saint Ex which has good food and a basement that has a DJ in the evening. Night life it’s U Street or H street for sure plenty of places to explore there, 12 stories on the waterfront is dope too, it overlooks the water, has a balcony and a DJ. During the day I like to go to Union market, has plenty of options to eat all great food, plenty of activities and places to just hang, and I stop by one of my favorite retailers “Somewhere”. Restaurants
Filomena

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m blessed to have a community of people that are all Family that I receive guidance, inspiration, and love from especially within the community of fashion Rich (Ricardo D’Sean), Karl (PreyFour), Daja (Zella Fermani), Marty (Plastic Missiles), Jade (JackieLeeCrafts), My Bottega DMV family, and so many more that have been a huge help in me keeping this thing going and progressing.
