We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline Donica and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caroline, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Open Seat Productions was founded to empower artists through collaboration, craft, and community. Instead of waiting around for work, I wanted to create opportunity for both myself and others. My goal was to give artists a chance to take ownership of their work in a safe space. For years, we have been told that if you don’t have a seat at the table, your voice is not heard. Therefore, I decided to build my own table with seats open for everyone.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a production company, Open Seat Productions is set apart as a business that seeks to empower artists through collaboration, craft, and community. We strive to create a safe space for artists to tell the stories they want to tell in the way they want to tell them. While it has not been an easy journey to this place, we are dedicated to valuing people and art over money.

My biggest challenge as the CEO of Open Seat Productions has been learning the social media marketing side. I have not been very active in the social media sphere. However, the mission of Open Seat has allowed me to connect with a social media marketing manager, who will be taking over that marketing side in May. Working with her has reaffirmed my belief in the power of collaboration in a welcoming community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came for a week, there are so many places I would love to take them! Of course, we would have to see a show at a theatre in town. We’d also visit the botanical gardens and Piedmont park for a picnic. I like to throw small parties as well that are themed, so I would plan that around their visit as well. I would love to try a high tea location as well. In my opinion, some of the most fun restaurants to check out are the Korean cafes in Duluth, Fleming’s steakhouse, and Rumi’s Kitchen.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to the Asian American acting community in Atlanta, particularly the East by Southeast, who have been so supportive. They have been such a blessing and welcomed me with open arms.
