We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamica Harper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Red Elephant Candle Company was birth during the height of the pandemic. I was personally going through my own mental blockage and trying to figure out how to navigate through this unexpected life altering occasion without having a full breakdown. I decided to discover my outlet through candles. Being fully aware that we were in a space that we need reinsurance of ourselves, I wanted to make sure that what I created was a space of healing, So I did research on different essential oils that aid to elevating mood, focusing, clarity, restlessness, claiming and even aid to headaches. I said to myself that if making, I need to make not to light up the house, but the moment that the individual is in, by doing so I needed to create a candle that is safe for individuals and their homes.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I incorporate my professional experience in mental health in my creativity, all of the products are handmade including the vessels. my goal is to create to products to repurpose for one’s home. Also, through candle making workshops. My intention when conducting workshops is to provide a safe, open, fun space for my clients create their own scent and candle. When making I am very intentional about the colors and the shapes. In the mental space I am always mindful of how my products bring calmness to one’s space. Giving myself the proper grace. I can say proudly that I am proud of the growth of Red Elephant Candle Company. This journey has had its pivots a lot of pivots but a lot of room for growth and wisdom. The best part of sitting in the challenges is working through the fears and finding ways to overcome and grow, I can say I am growing with Red Elephant Candle Company,

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my best friend will come the beginning of Summertime Chi. Every morning it is a must that we get up and go to different coffee shops throughout the city. Chicago has so many beautiful spaces and one of the best spaces to just relax is a coffee shop. There will be daily walks on the lakefront you have to have the experience of the ski line. We would eat all the time, not the fancy restaurants but the authentic Chicago food, for beginners PIZZA. of course, we would have to go to a few brunches. I have to show her the art scene, going to different exhibits and of course the museums. and catch some boat tours. On of the days we will go downtown and walk the magnificent mile and do some shopping. Night life would include different speakeasys and checking out live music.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My daughter, is my biggest influence, she makes everything so simple. I go to her for advice for coloring, blending scents content ect. I have notice that this not only my outlet but her outlet as well. My creative space come from my granny Miss Pearlene Harper her style and her eye for color was so inspiring.
