Meet Rell Z The Genius | Musical Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rell Z The Genius and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rell Z The Genius, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Everything honestly started when I was young. I hated feeling unheard. Whether it was because I was too young to be taken seriously, or not in a position where the people around me would be open to understanding my mindset.
Music was my outlet, my diary, my therapy, my peace and my passion. The way for me to say what I feel without feeling unheard. It became my voice.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Rell Z The Genius. People always ask me why I added the title of “Genius” to the end of my name. It’s simply because I want to be considered as one. When I think about the people who we have labeled as geniuses, it’s not necessarily about the things that they knew or the knowledge that they’ve gained. It’s about the passion and the creativity that it takes to create something new for the world to experience. So when it comes to my craft and the art that I put out, I want the world to say that only a genius is capable of creating what I created
I feel as though I reached this stage through hard work, and it hasn’t been easy but that’s the beauty of it. As an independent artist there is no rules or instructions on how to find success within your brand. We take what we are given and make the best out of what we have. I had to scrounge up enough money and resources to build a studio from scratch in my bedroom, so that whenever I found inspiration I was able to create without depending on anyone else. I spent countless hours learning how to get my sound right and produce music that I was proud of.
There’s way more to being an artist than just making music. That was a lesson that I had to learn very early. There’s promotion, networking, licensing and many more aspects that the everyday consumer wouldn’t consider. I thought that in order to find success with this I had to train myself to be in the mindset that I have already made it. Instead I had to put myself in the mindset that my goal will come with a journey that will have no destination. There will always be more to learn, more to achieve and I refuse to become stagnant in a world that keeps moving.
I want the world to know that I am here to defeat mediocrity, and settling for less than greatness will be a disservice to myself and to all who witness.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would honestly be more inclined to show the culture of Pittsburgh. Let them experience the different art that we offer from Randyland to the Wood Street Galleries. From breakfast at Grandma B’s in the Hill District to dinner at Primanti Bros. As far as night life goes we could walk through the Strip district or head to East Carson Street on the Southside. A weekend wouldn’t be enough time to truly grasp of what my city can offer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has been my biggest inspiration, and when I say family I am not limiting that to only my relatives. I have tried my best to surround myself with people who not only support me but also push me to be the best version of myself.
I have faced challenges along this road inside and out of my career but I’m truly blessed to have the people that I do in my corner.
