We had the good fortune of connecting with Saytue Saye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Saytue, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As the manager for Liberia’s international musician Friday the Legend, alongside being a poet, author, and medium, I believe creativity has always been intertwined with my essence, perhaps a mutual choice. My life has been a tapestry of artistic endeavors, from poetry writing since the age of 10 to abstract painting, music, blogging, and hosting my own radio show, “Mixture of Arts with Saytue Saye.” Introduced to poetry by my sister Sylvia, I found a natural aptitude for it, often crafting verses for friends and participating in poetry clubs. Music, ranging from various genres like trap, gangsta, crunk, and more, deeply influences me, although I lean more towards poetry than rapping. This inclination led me to blend poetry with music, resulting in my album “Lee Nefu e Dii a,” which translates to “that girl” in the Liberian Dahn/Mano language. The creation of a spinal cord injury awareness coloring book stemmed from a personal journey, inspired by my sister’s tragic passing due to a spinal cord injury. Initially intending to support through advocacy, divine intervention guided me towards creating a therapeutic and awareness-raising coloring book titled “Wheels of Happiness: Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Coloring Book.” Its impact became evident when the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia, purchased 25 copies for their gift shop. Thus, my artistic and creative career path was illuminated by my sister’s presence, revealing my inherent talents and gifts.

The “Lee Nefu e Dii a” poetry over music album exudes an erotic, sensual, and captivating vibe, empowering women to embrace self-love and confidence. It stands apart from typical music albums as it merges poetry seamlessly with music, presenting a unique artistic expression. Notably, the cover art, drawn by my eldest daughter Saytya, embodies the essence of the album, reflecting the true me that often goes unnoticed. When you think of Saytue, think of “Lee Nefu e Dii a” – a blend of vintage and modern charm, radiating subtle confidence.

On the other hand, “Wheels of Happiness: Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Coloring Book” may seem simple, but its impact is profound. I take immense pride in realizing my dream of making a difference in the lives of those affected by spinal cord injuries.

What truly sets me apart from other creative artists is my diverse range of expression, despite facing challenges such as stuttering. Overcoming this obstacle was no easy feat, as it often led to feelings of sadness and frustration. However, embracing my flaws and learning to love myself unconditionally transformed my perspective. With the support of God, my angels, and eliminating negativity from my life, I found happiness and personal growth. I want the world to recognize me not just for my beauty and intelligence, but for the impact and inspiration I bring through my words and actions.

On a different tangent, managing the legendary Friday the Legend is undoubtedly challenging. However, I’ve amazed myself with how effectively I balance the roles of a professional artist manager and a creative artist. Juggling personal and business aspirations, along with parenting responsibilities, requires unique skills. I am thankful for the opportunity to excel as one of the top Liberian female artist managers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would be ungrateful not to acknowledge the role of God in my life. He is my ultimate source of guidance and strength, alongside my guardian angels. Following closely are my children, my mother Raimatue Saye, my mentor and second mother Carla Frueh, my sister Sylvia Saye, and my artist Friday the Legend. Each of these individuals has contributed significantly to my growth in physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional dimensions. They have collectively shaped who I am today, alongside the influence of my favorite poet, Maya Angelou.
