We had the chance of connecting with Felicia Lucas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Felicia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wrote my first book, Make it Happen: Moving Towards Your Best U in 2016. As I was out promoting my book as a speaker, one of the audience members asked me to help them in writing their book.

I was so surprised that she felt I was the person to help her with her vision. I presented to her a proposal and she became my first client. My one yes to her opened the door for so many others to write and publish their books and stories of inspiration, empowerment and encouragement. My company, His Glory Creations Publishing LLC, has expanded over the past 7 years and is now an international company. His Glory Creations Publishing was started in response to a need and has become an avenue to help so many others. We have been commissioned to serve and I am grateful for my obedience to the work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
16 years ago, I lost my job while I was out for maternity leave. About a week before I was scheduled to return, I received an email from my boss about attending a mandatory conference call. I remember thinking what could be so important that I had to be on a call for. I took the call and quickly discovered that my job would be ending.

So here I was, a very emotional being who had just given birth 5 weeks prior and my employer telling me that I would be unemployed. We had 3 kids, a mortgage, 2 car notes, and other bills that without a job, I would not have any income to support.

I hesitantly returned to work and learned that the company wanted us to interview for one vacant slot as a District Human Resources Leader where they were 12 of us currently in the human resources manager role. I was the last one hired and like in most areas, the first to be fired. I didn’t get offered the district position. I was disappointed but not shaken!

I had my faith and trust in God, who I knew, as in his word, that he shall supply all of my needs. The company offered a transition program where we were provided free job search resources such as resume writing and interviewing skill classes at a local agency. I faithfully attended each session and began on my new journey.

I had no idea what I was to do next, but I knew that God had my back. I applied for over 50 jobs, and out of the blue, I was given an interview with a company that I didn’t even remember applying to. They hired me instantly, and the rest is history. I was offered a position with more flexibility, more money and the opportunity to advance rather quickly.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Atlanta! It was the place in which I met my husband over 29 years ago. We love Downtown Atlanta. One of our favorite spots includes The King Center.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out all of the clients that trusted me with their books and have referred so many others for my service.
