We had the good fortune of connecting with Jermaine Jefferson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jermaine, how do you think about risk?
I think that calculated risk is necessary for the creative. Calculated risk taking played a huge role when deciding to leave the police department to be an entrepreneur.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
You know it’s funny. I’m actually at a crossroads when it comes to my art. My brand initially took off due to my looks specifically, not necessarily my talent. As the saying goes ¨sex sells.¨ Sex work chose me. It was easy and gave me the freedom to invest in myself and escape the rat race. However, I knew eventually it would lead to a dead end. Surprisingly enough, sex work is what helped me to land my first movie role: Gangster’s Daughter. My first day on set I was anxious because I had never worked on a project of this level. I was able to overcome my nerves with the encouragement of my cast and crew. Now, Ím in a place in my career where I feel challenged and inspired. There aren’t too many people who could have played this role. I’m proud that I was able to deliver. I’ve learned that I am my biggest investment and as long as I continue to work on my personal development new opportunities will come. I want the world to know that it doesn’t matter where you start as long as you start.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have to say my favorite place to go in the city is the The Breakfast Boys.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to my twin flame, Denise Freeman. This woman has supported and inspired my talents. Denise has spent countless hours rehearsing with me, with each project that I took on.
