We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharia Steed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharia, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work life has changed dramatically from becoming a mom. I have a 3 year and it can be hectic sometimes. I normally work mostly from morning to evening. After I finish working with clients all day I’m in mommy mode. Once I put my daughter to sleep I’m back to spending time creating content for the rest of the night.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am mostly proud of how far I have became. Growing up, I watched my parents struggle to make ends meet which made me want more for myself and my family. As an entrepreneur, it is not easy I will have days where I want to give up because of dry seasons where I might not get as many customers or clients. This is the main reason why I keep God as the certain front of life because the devil will try you in a multitude of ways or I may need the strength to continue to chase my dreams. I’ve always been into beauty and fashion since a little girl. I always wanted to be unique and different from everyone else. I would always dress and wear different creative hairstyles in high school. I even used to sneak and do my makeup at school. I wanted to be known as the “Fly Girl” in school. My curiosity about makeup first started by watching YouTube. One of my favorite makeup gurus and fashionistas I watch is MsAaliyahJay. I could relate to her in many ways. Ms.Aaliyah Jay is creative, a bomb makeup artist, a business mogul, and so talented. I could watch her for hours and honestly, she inspired me to start my own makeup career and beauty YouTube channel. I started practicing in the mirror doing my makeup from using my mom as a makeup model and now actually taking clients as my 9-5 job.
I want to world to know about me I am the voice for the girls who have dreams and are scared to pursue them. I am voice and the hope for others who not sure what they want to do in life. I encourage others to chase their goals and they can be whoever they want to be! I always go by this saying “What’s for me is for me” which means anything God has in store for me will always happen no matter what obstacles get in my way my blessing will happen. I want the world to know that my company Slay by Shar is for all minorities and genders. My goal is to ensure my customer feels beautiful inside and out.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie so I love to eat at Roc South, La Chingada, and Toast on Lenox. I love daiquiris and fruit alcohol drinks so as long as I can’t taste the alcohol. I’m good! Some places I would go to for fun are different lounges, art museums, and the spa.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give thanks to God because without him I wouldn’t be who I am today. I am grateful for the ups and downs because it molded me to be stronger and to be more passionate about my dreams.
