We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Perkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paul, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In my journey to building ORION, I was consumed by creating a company defined by the problems we solve and not just by the products and services we develop and provide to consumers.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
ORION Electronics Company,Inc is a global consumer electronics company. We were founded in 2013 at the Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) in China and HQ’d in Columbus, OH. We develop affordable, innovative and Eco-friendly consumer products for the 21st-century, a vision we call the “Internet of Us™”.

ORION is built on the back of 4 well-qualified and experienced individuals who all share a vision for a more innovative and sustainable world. Paul Perkins (CEO), Syndey Mwaimba (COO), Colin Curry (CDO) and Pius Gadosey (CTO). We all share over 30 years experience studying and working in emerging economies in the design and technology markets. Together we make a diverse, smart, efficient and unique team.

Our journey from the very beginning has been focused on the alignment and synergy of technology to solve the world problems we face in the 21st century, as it applies to air pollution, access to internet and transportation.

The major problem we are currently solving, is the fact that millions of Americans, specifically students and young professionals don’t have access to a car or affordable, reliable and sustainable transportation options for their daily commutes.

Our flagship product is the ORION Bike® and ORIONGo® App, an affordable, innovative and Eco-Friendly Electric Bike and EV ride-sharing subscription App for students and young professionals.

The ORION Bike® is currently available preorder starting at $1300 via our website www.orionec.com. It has a cool, light-weight and innovative design. As a Class 2 electric smart bike for daily commutes it is the ideal E-Bike for youth, college students and young professionals. Made of durable high-grade materials, this bike is built for convenience and is the Future of Urban Travel™.

In 2021, we raised nearly $30k from over 150 investors via crowdfunding campaign www.wunderfund.co/orion to begin the process for development of the ORION Bike. After a year of development and setbacks due to availability of parts and timelines due to CoVid-19 we pushed through and finished the design and produced our first samples of the bikes.

This past year, we saw a significant amount of traction and growth. Focusing on the consumer sector to grow brand awareness, we sold 30 preorders and had celebrities such as Jaden Smith, Jim Jones and GHerbo ride and support our products on social media.

We are shipping the first 100 bikes by Spring 24′ to customers. We plan to sell 10k units by the end of 2024.

In the next 12-18mos we look to also pilot our rideshare subscription App in Columbus, OH and 4 other major US cities, that will give millions of students and young professionals the chance to access the bikes for their daily commutes at just $10/mo and $60/yr for unlimited rides. We are also in talks with major corporations and universities to subsidize the cost for their students and employees to have a safe, fun and reliable means of transportation.

We have a very direct goal of building a more innovative and sustainable world and becoming one of the top 5 most influential tech companies in the 21st Century. We are actively looking for partners and investors who understand our vision and mission and want to be a part of helping us build and attain that goal.

Simply, my plan for traveling and a motto for life is to “Expect nothing but be willing to gain everything.” I think when you come with an open mind and spirit to places and people you gain more than you could ever plan for.
