We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam New and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam, what inspires you?
A lot of other art and artists inspire me. I feel like it’s a conversation, we all put things out there and get inspired by each other. And maybe somewhere in there we find something meaningful. Music especially seems to give me a lot of ideas and it can be fun to see what different kinds of music bring out in me creatively. Working with Mozart in the background is a very different energy than blasting some 2 Chainz. But both can be amazing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think one thing that sets me apart, and maybe has hurt me in some ways and helped me in others, is that I take a very broad approach to art. I like to create things, but those things can take many forms. So often I find myself writing or drawing, and I think that creativity really feeds my digital art which is my main outlet. It definitely hasn’t been an easy journey. I’ve struggled a lot to find my own creative voice and medium, but I think the most important thing is just to keep going and keep creating. In the immortal words of Ms. Frizzle, “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy.’
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If they were visiting in the fall or spring we would definitely check out one of the neighborhood festivals which are one of my favorite things in Atlanta. I’d probably take them to a show at 529 in EAV which is a great, really small concert venue. We’d have to spend a day in Decatur and probably do a pass through Kudzu. There are also a lot of great hiking spots around that I’d love to show them. I like to keep my favorite spots a little bit secret so they don’t get too crowded, but there’s a lot of good ones along the Chattahoochee and several spots like Kennesaw mountain which offer some great views and a little bit of an escape from the city. I also love just chilling out in my neighborhood. We live in midtown so we’d probably spend some time in Piedmont or possibly shoot some hoops in Central Park.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is dedicated to my partner who is a constant source of support, feedback, and inspiration. It’s not always easy dating someone trying to do their own thing in the creative space, but they’ve been with me through it all and I don’t think I could have done it without them.
