We had the good fortune of connecting with Khaila Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khaila, how do you think about risk?
Taking *calculated* risks is what I do. From the day I entered this life, I’ve bet on myself (even sometimes unknowingly) and each time, it proves to be beneficial. I believe that taking risks and doing what I feel is right for myself is what has ultimately helped me on my journey to self-realization. Doctors have always told me “don’t do this” or “you probably shouldn’t do that,” but so far, I’ve done it and prevailed. It took a lot of courage to get where I am now, but I know as I continue to strategically take risks, I know that more blessings will come.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my body. I don’t have a “normal” physique. I have visible differences from the everyday person. I used to call them “imperfections.”But what’s also different is that I’m taking those so-called imperfections and making a statement through modeling – that UNIQUE bodies are also beautiful and should be represented in everyday life. I’ve been striving to make a mark in the fashion industry, and so far, I’ve done so locally, but I want to continue to touch lives on an even bigger scale.

Was it easy to get here? Absolutely not. This comes from YEARS of mental and physical pain. I spent so many years hating myself because I didn’t feel beautiful, and sometimes I still don’t. I spent my entire childhood and early adulthood harping on things I can’t change instead of accepting them and being thankful for the many blessings I’ve been given. Although I’m still in early adulthood, I don’t want to continue living this way.

In 2020 when the pandemic hit, I had a come-to-Jesus moment. I knew I had a decision to make: either stay miserable and continue sulking, or take control of my narrative and encourage others to do the same. That’s what The Tiny K is about. She is about her business, but also about accepting the cards she was dealt and playing them to the best of her ability.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Of course, I would take her to do the touristy things like the Coca-Cola factory, Botanical Gardens, and the Aquarium because who doesn’t love the Aquarium?! But I would also take her to midtown to hang out at the Interlock, maybe take a ride to the Battery for some food and Braves baseball, or even an afternoon of shopping in Buckhead Village ending with dinner at Carmel.

When I’m not in the city mood, I love hanging out at Marietta Square – especially during fall when it’s not too hot and not too cold to enjoy the outdoors and walking in and out of the various stores on the streets.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my grandma. She’s no longer on our side of life, but she has always been my hero. She’s the one who taught me at an early age the importance of always looking and feeling your best – even while you’re sleeping – because “you never know who you’ll meet in your dreams.” I’ve taken that and turned it into a daily mantra because I’m working to make my dreams come true, and I want to urge others, especially those with UNIQUE bodies, to do the same.
