We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylin Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaylin, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The end is goal, is to merely leave a footprint on this trail of amazing, creative individuals who have come before me. I want to add my story to this quilt we call life and give someone else the sense of “I can do it all!”
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have been a business owner since 2017, so 6 years.
I have been through a lot of changes with my businesses. I have changed names, concepts, but it was fully because I was being led by flesh and first instinct rather than spirit and gut feeling. Whatever felt right in the moment, or what sounded cool, and I was tired of constantly making a change in my business that was so drastic. So I prayed. I prayed about the direction of my businesses, my purpose, my clientele, my gifts, all of it. And for a long time, I doubted myself HEAVILY. Nobody would know, but it was scary.
Genesis 1:1 is my infrastructure to my businesses, to my creativity, to who I am as a person. Reason being, we know God created the Heavens and the Earth, and by no means is anything about what was created, simple. I am not a simple person. I have several faculties or layers to me, as a person. I hold different roles. So I had to realize, if God could create two of the most complex spaces in this world, why couldn’t I create with that same complexity and it be just as beautiful, just as fulfilling, and make a difference in the industry.
I am a woman of many talents, Miss-Multi-Talented, if you will. I’m a hairstylist, an esthetician, a personal fashion stylist just to name a few.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is always a good time whenever I’m there. A good girls night out? I would have to start off with Sea Salt ATL. Bar none, some of the best food I’ve had. My Salmon pasta is something I still talk about to this day, and the drinks were amazing. After that, we always have to go to Boogalou for a good vibe and great energy.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God, off the bat, first and foremost. My tribe — my partner, my family, my best friends — they have seen me through every step of this journey to building who I am today. I am beyond grateful. Even more so, I began reading “Woman Evolve” by Sarah Jakes Roberts that was a HUGE turning point for me. That is where I realized so much about myself as a woman, as a creative, as a business owner, a friend, a sister, a partner. That book helped me to realize I am worthy of doing everything God placed on my heart. I will read and reread when I need that extra push.
