We had the good fortune of connecting with Marlan Ballard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marlan, what inspires you?
I was inspired by a plethora of things growing up. I watched alot of things I wasn’t supposed to be watching. Things like Beavis and butthead, Eddie murphy movies, and in living color were my go to when it came to getting a laugh.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is that I think a certain way and I work a certain way. When im in creative mode i shut things out that doesn’t help my writing process. When its time for me to deliver my finished product i make sure its a ready as possible, If it falls short I go back to the lab and make adjustments
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When it comes to fun and laughter ill take them to comedy spots such as The Punchline, Uptown Comedy Corner, or The Comedy Theater. If they want to party ill take them to MJQ Concourse or on Edgewood Ave.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout-out a couple of people that played a part in my success. Chauntae Wayans was the first to believe in me, was there for my first show and continues to mentor me. Brandon T Jackson took me under his wing and let me tour with him going on 5 years now.
