We had the good fortune of connecting with Annie Stephenson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Annie, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I think a lot of people viewing the aesthetics and wellness industry would be amazed at the level of training required and continuing education that goes in to keeping current on the latest trends and updates to procedures. Each aspect of the industry is highly regulated and requires very advanced training to ensure clients are receiving the highest level of care. I believe most people get into this industry because the truly care about helping people achieve their desired results and giving them the confidence that comes with it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I never thought I would be a beautician because I graduated with a business degree and my major was in finance. Fourteen years ago when I came to the U.S., in the middle of a recession, I could not find work in my field of study. I took a job as a receptionist at a salon and started learning how to do nails. I started to realize that I don’t want to stop at just becoming a nail technician. I wanted to learn more about the beauty field where, I can do lashes, permanent make-up, and skincare. I went to school to become a Master Cosmetologist which allows me to do it all. I dreamt about opening a Spa everyday but in reality I didn’t have much money. I needed to start somewhere so I purchased a struggling salon for $10,000 and started building my clientele. It is so hard to build clients for a place with a bad reputation, but I worked 12 hours a day 7 days a week to ensure it became successful. In 2020 when the pandemic hit. a lot of businesses were selling or going out of business, I decided to expand my business to a much bigger nail salon. That is the best decision I ever made. the salon was very successful and I got my Cosmetic Laser License and became a Medical Aesthetician. I wanted to explore more about this field so I sold the nail salon making 30 times profit in just 2 years. I used the profit to invest in my dream Spa and Wellness Salon, where I am currently building my brand. I believe in working hard, learn as much as possible, do the job with all your heart, and be there for your clients. Don’t let others discourage you, make decisions for yourself, and gain experience by learning from others. Everyone is capable if they are serious about being successful and putting in the necessary effort. Respect all people and treat everyone as equal. Don’t cry over your past or your current obstacles. Keep doing good work and you will be recognized.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I currently live in Newnan Ga . Of course I will show them the area where my Spa is located in Ashley Park, an open air mall in the heart of Newnan. I love the historic area in downtown Newnan with it’s small town feel and old historic homes. There are several restaurants around the courthouse that I would like to take them to as well, such as The Redneck Gourmet, Meet n Greet, The Cellar which has good music, or Grazing Here in nearby Peachtree City. Another great restaurant in Fayetteville is Frank’s at the Old Mild. I would also would love to show them some attractions in Atlanta which is popular with The World of Coca Cola, CNN, and The Georgia Aquarium. Of course we can always hang out in the backyard grilling out and enjoying music too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family for all of their support through the long hours and trials of starting a new business especially my husband who encourages me in all of my endeavors and always believes in me unconditionally. I also wouldn’t have the success that I have had without the loyalty of all my clients.
