We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorrie Dixson Griggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lorrie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was working for CNN in live news production. I often was on call or working weekends so was looking for something to do during the weekdays while everyone else was at work. I started freelancing for an advertising company. I didn’t like the way they ran their company and had already made all of the necessary contacts and decided I should start my own business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your businesses, can you tell us more and your keys to success?
Since 2001, I have owned Eskimo Advertising, a boutique PR, marketing and social media agency. In 2016, I started Drifter Merch with my late husband providing music-inspired apparel and accessories as well as custom screen printing and embroidery. Both are sucessful entities as exceptional customer service and hands on management have been key. In both businesses, I have always taken the time to get to know my clients and their needs to best serve them. I got to where I am today by never giving up, hustling and making things happens. In business, there are always lessons from experiences but it is important to learn from them all.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, if someone was visiting Atlanta, I would have to tell them to visit all of my clients. Moe’s Original BBQ in Midtown has some of the best down-home Southern fare, while Amalfi Pizza has authentic Neapolitan pizzas. Visitors to the city won’t want to miss Red Phone Booth’s craft cocktails and exceptional cigar program in a speakeasy atmostphere. Some other cool places include Smith’s Olde Bar for live music, Tulipano to shop in Buckhead and tour Coca Cola.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d have to shout out to my parents as they taught me to be independent, driven, resourceful and a go getter.
