We had the good fortune of connecting with LaMetra Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaMetra, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
One of the many things that make me happy is being a blessing to others. I am one of those people who love to see others happy and knowing that something I have done made it possible. I am a firm believer that when God blesses you, then you should be a blessing to others. When I do things for others, I do it from the goodness of my heart without looking for a return from that person. My reward will indeed come back in multiples from God. When you truly know what your purpose is and exercise your God given spiritual gifts, it is then that you can be obedient to his word and draw all men to him so he (God) is able to get all the praises and glory.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is LaMetra Brown but I go my childhood nickname Missy. I am a Licensed Surgical Technologist at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the owner of Missy’s Heavenly Cupcakes which is a bakery located in the Sugar Land, Texas area that offers delicious and unique baked confections that taste homemade. Our products include gourmet cupcakes, cake pops, brownies, cookies, alcohol infused cupcakes, pup treats for our special pets, candy bouquets and custom gift baskets. We also have a custom line of baked goods that are sugar free, keto and dairy free. Not only that we do offer where you can have various types of logos as well as personalize your confections. These are the many things that sets us apart for any other bakery.

I was born and raised in Waco, Tx. I moved to Houston ,Tx shortly after graduating from college and advancing my skills at Hillcrest Hosptial and wanting to expand my career as a Licensed Surgical Technologist in the world, I worked at Texas Childrens Hospital, MD Anderson, and presently at St. Joseph Hospital. I have worked in the Operating Room as a Licensed Surgical Technologist for over 13 years in the specialty areas of Orthopedics, Neurology, General Surgery, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Plastics, Bariatrics, Podiatry, Cardiovascular, Pediatrics, Trauma and Pain Management.

Throughout my career, I have had a particular interest in the interface between mental and physical health, food science and poverty. I believe that education life coaching and mentorship can help to eradicate generational. issues like bullying, peer pressure, self-esteem, good menta and physical health, suicide, teen pregnancy, drug addiction and domestic violence, I believe that having a great mentor is the first key to addressing these issues so i would like to introduce myself for the opportunity to mentor young people.

I have a huge heart, very compassionate, and love to be a blessing to others. So baking delicious confections for my friends and family was and still is my way to show love, and spread joy, I work in the Operating Room during the day, and bake sweet confections at night as a way to spread love and joy to all of my amazing clients and support my community.

I have a heart for people, and I am deeply committed to giving back to underserved communities and local charities by hosting free cupcake events, donating tons of confections to various types of organizations and schools to help not only raise money for a special cause but also to help raise awareness for life events as well as providing both financial support and countless hours of community service.

in my leisure time I enjoy cooking, traveling, wine tasting and spending time with my friends and family.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So my best friend, Tynette Hamilton knows how much I LOVE Starbucks so we most definitely would start the day off there with some black tea, maybe the caramel macchiato with extra caramel drizzle. From there would go and have brunch Downtown at Phil and Derek. This is a place that has great food, jazz music, and great brunch cocktails. Then to one of the best luxury spas in Houston, getting facials, manicures, pedicures, and just amazing pampering for the facility, Next a little retail therapy lol. So we would do some shopping at the Galleria.
The following day we would rent slingshots and maybe head out to Galveston and or Kemah to enjoy the beach, good food, shopping, drinks and music.

Other places during her visit I would take her to museums, wineries, fine dining restaurants, indoor skydiving, billiards, and so much more. Houston is such an amazing place to live with TONS of things to do non stop, but we would most definitely have tons of fun during her trip here.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I first would like to recognize God. Without him I am nothing. Through prayer, worship, and having faith during my spiritual journey, it has gotten me where I am today. I give all praise and glory to him for the success of my business at Missy’s Heavenly Cupcakes. I would also like to recognize my family who has always been there to motivate me and encourage me. My sister Renee Collins helped me to understand how important behind the scenes of having and maintain a successful business is. My parents Kay Brown and Dennis Brown always given me much love and encouragement to never give up. My beautiful daughters Jalyn Mathis and Bre’Asia Brown have always been my biggest cheerleaders. They are always telling me how proud they are of me, and they have helped introduce Missy’s Heavenly Cupcakes to many of their friends and colleagues. I’m extremely proud of myself because I had a desire to have my own business and doing something that I had a passion for, and when I found out what that was, I gave it my all to make it happen. It was not an easy journey and there were a lot of obstacles that got in the way but with perserverance I refused to give up.
