We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Poon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what is the most important factor behind your success?
That is a very good question! Success holds different meaning for everyone but for me success comes from passion. As an event designer and stylist, I owe my success and the success of my brand to passion, it is what fuels my motivation to push boundaries. I ensure that every event is unique to each client by integrating their vision with mine. I have been creating art in various ways since childhood and it brings me pleasure to know that I can utilize my creativity to make others happy as well. Artists are emotional and I am an artist that embodies feelings and with passion I can resonate with my surroundings and produce art that I hope others can appreciate and understand.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At EVLA Designs we offer curated event design and styling for our clients and our style encompass organic elements coupled with muted tones and sophistications. When starting my own event design/styling business I did not realize how quickly it would evolve. Party planning and styling started out as a hobby and the business idea gradually grew after creating numerous parties for my kids and family during quarantine. It went from family events to friends, friends of friends and it eventually reached a larger community outside of family and friends. Now, we have clients from all over Georgia with many that are returning ones which we are truly grateful for. What I am most proud of would be my client’s appreciation toward my work and how they value the beauty of my work.

There are many talented event designers in the industry but if I have to pinpoint one component that defines EVLA Designs would be our compassion. Our clients are our friends and we care about their events as much as they do so we will pour my heart and soul into designing and styling all events with the utmost attention to detail.

It still feels quite surreal how I made it this far. I recall conversations with my sister and husband telling them I need to find that “something” that can revive me as an artist. It has not been an easy process but all the work and patience have slowly paid off. It sounds cliche but dreams can come true because we need to take that leap of faith. Something that I we are truly excited about is to expand our to businesses in various industries.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Georgia is honestly a beautiful state filled with numerous historic sites and is complimented with a modern flare offered by vibrant cities and people. When in Georgia, we cannot miss the vibrant city of Atlanta, so do not leave until you visit these famous landmarks: Piedmont Park, High Museum of Art, Margaret Mitchell House, Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park, World of Coca-Cola, the Fox Theater, Georgia Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta and so many more. Eat and drink your way through the Big Peach by immersing yourself through various food halls that have gained popularity in Ponce City Market, Colony Square, and the Works. You must see the real beauty and history outside of Atlanta as well in places like Savannah where you can experience true Southern hospitality; Blue Ridge Mountain where you can be one with nature, Tybee Island where you can escape the city bustle to relax; Athens where you can understand the Southern university living; and Helen where you can experience German culture without visiting Germany.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so much gratitude for everyone in my life especially my family and friends who continuously offered their unwavering support since the beginning of my journey with EVLA Designs. First to my friends, thanks those late-night chats, random discussions, and constant encouragement. Thanks to my siblings for ideas which helped me grow dynamically in the event business. How can I not mention my children, Evan and Mila are the greatest inspiration behind my creativity. The name behind my business, EVLA derived from their names Evan and Mila who helped me rediscover myself and the passion for art! I cannot express enough how much appreciation that I have for my husband, Johnson who never missed a single beat throughout the entire process. He is the spine of my business and is involved in every aspect of EVLA Designs. He is my intern, assistant, business advisor, organizer, counselor, handyman, and so much more but most importantly my cheerleader. Finally, I cannot thank my parents enough for teaching me what hard work, perseverance, and dedication means because I truly believe that hard work can ultimately pay off.
