Meet Kaylan Simmons | Model/ Model Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylan Simmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaylan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve been modeling for some years now and it has brought me great opportunities. Throughout my journey I’ve seen others wanting to break into modeling, but they didn’t know where to start. I have a true passion for helping others especially when it comes to pushing people towards their dreams. I did go to college and I received my master’s degree in social work, but I figured I could use it towards something I really love to do which is my passion for modeling. Therefore, I came up with my business, Perfectly Imperfect Model Therapy. My modeling program consist of two parts. I have my model coaching/mentoring program and my therapy program. My therapy program helps build confidence within others and help develop thick skin for the industry through my workshop. I also offer sessions where my mentees can come talk to me about any stressors one might be dealing with even if it’s doesn’t pertain to modeling. My model coaching/mentoring program is where I will help with showing you the ins and outs of modeling such as posing and walking, the do’s and don’ts of modeling, help my mentees become a professional model and more!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My program is called Perfectly Imperfect Model Therapy. I decided to call it that because I live by learning to accept and embrace your flaws. One might look at someone and think they have it all together, but looks can be deceiving when you’re looking from the outside. We never truly know what people think of themselves on the inside, but that’s where my program comes in and helps turn that flaw into something you appreciate and love. I launched my business 2 years ago. I was not really taking myself serious when it came to my business because I have a fear of failing. My fear stood in the way majority of the first year as far as me putting myself out there. After so long, I pushed it to the side and I really started putting in work to help grow my business. It is a start up, so it’s not widely known; however, I do feel within 2 years it will grow tremendously.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to have fun! I still feel like a kid at heart sometimes. I would probably want to go to Six Flags one day White Water the next day. I love to do indoor rock climbing, or I might choose to go hiking at Stone Mountain. I might even throw in an escape room, a rage room, or even both. Anything playful I’m here for it! I might also suggest Jeju spa if I need to relax. We can’t forget about the food. If we’re going out to brunch, Suite Food Lounge would be the spot. I love getting their cat fish and the vibes in there are amazing. The Sugar Factory and Slutty Vegan are also spots I like. I also like to search on Tik Tok for other suggestions whenever I want to try something new. I’m not a vegan, but I don’t eat beef, chicken, or pork so I have to find spots with something on menu that I can eat. When it comes to the late night fun, I do not have a particular lounge or club I prefer especially being that the club scene is not a must for me, but I do not mind going.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout-out to Vincent Hillard Jr. He is a well known photographer/videographer. We teamed up a little over a year ago by bringing both of our talents together and working as a team. We both strive to help anyone achieve their dreams when it comes to modeling.
