We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaylawn AKA Ken Doll and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaylawn AKA Ken Doll, how do you think about risk?
I believe risks are essential to building an empire. I like to look at risks as potential success, because you can gain just as much as you could lose. Everyone is afraid to take them, but when you step out on faith and trust in God, he’ll make sure to guide your every step. He’ll allow you to trip up and fall, but he will always be there to pick you back up. I’ve taken multiple risks when it came to schooling and jobs, but had I not I wouldn’t be on the path i’m on today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a music artist and I dabble into modeling. I believe for this path, it’s very important to be authentic and true to yourself because that’s how your creativity gets sparked. I am my brand and my brand is me. I’m most proud to have God’s guidance and blessings to do what I am called to do. He’s the reason I’m where I am today, but that doesn’t mean it was easy. I’ve been through many trials and tribulations and I’m sure there will be many more to come. I’ve overcome so many by being resilient, faithful and prayerful. I know that every storm has a rainbow at the end and even if the sun doesn’t shine today, it definitely will shine tomorrow. I’ve learned to trust God and to lean on him for strength. Times get hard, but he gives the toughest battles to his strongest soldiers because he knows we’ll come out on top. I want the world to know that I’m fighting for those who never had the confidence to chase their dreams. I’m fighting for those who have been doubted and made out to be the underdog. I’m fighting for the LGBTQ+ community because we have been looked down upon and condemned by mankind, but God says otherwise as his blessings continue to rain down on me. My brand is for those who never felt comfortable in their skin and were afraid to be their true self.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
On the wake up, we heading straight to Egg Harbor Cafe. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and mimosas make the meal ten times better.  After breakfast we’re heading to piedmont park to spend some time in nature and walk off the calories from our mini feast. Next we’re heading to Little Five Points, mainly for the aesthetic and to flick up. To continue the aesthetic, we’re going to visit the High Museum of Art. There’s nothing better than seeing fye art pieces! By this time, I’m sure our stomachs are in our back so we’re going to head over to Tin Lizzys. Their tacos are top tier so its a must my guests try them! Usually after a good meal, I’d go home and take a nap, but we outside all day chile. Next Stop, Sixflags! Ugh, the thrill of a 180 feet drop is fun, but also very nerve wrecking. After being dropped like hot potatoes off of several rides, we’re heading to a gas station to grab some slushes to cool us off. The day isn’t complete until we catch a vibe and have dinner at the Hive. Stomachs full, but we can always squeeze some desert in, our sweet tooth wouldn’t have it any other way. Ice cream is always a pleasant treat and Insomnia cookies knows how to top it off with their delicious cookies. As you can tell, I love eating and sightseeing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many that I would love to shoutout as so many have shown me support on my journey, but theres a special friend turned family, Nyrobia. She’s my bestfriend and I’ve known her since middle school. Since I’ve started my creative journey, she has been on the sidelines cheering me on. She makes sure I see my greatness and pushes me to my fullest potential. She tells me when I’m wrong and we all need a friend as real as her.
