We had the good fortune of connecting with Jon Frederick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jon, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Before starting into any venture, you have to stop and ask yourself, “what are my goals, what am I trying to achieve with this?” Success, to me, is about obtaining those initial goals. Not everyone is seeking fame or fortune. Perhaps it is only stability, security, sharing your voice, or creating a new path in your field. For me, I started in photography and gained what I thought I wanted quickly. Later I discovered that the work I was doing wasn’t me and it was the goals for others, not for myself. It didn’t represent my values, morals, or artistic vision. So, I ventured away from mainstream and took a path less traveled (and much less lucrative!). But on that path, I found myself and the person God intended for me to be; I was finally proud of the work I created. That’s when I knew I had succeeded, the benefits of success came later but weren’t nearly as important as that feeling of personal and spiritual fulfillment.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We refer to our art as faith-inspired photography. I find that when I am out on a shoot, whether it be wildlife, landscapes, or street photography, there is a story in every scene and a lesson in every snap of the shutter. My wife and I take that message and put it into words through blogs, Christian articles, and recently our first book, “Immersion, An Inspirational Christian Photography Collection.” This approach of combining fine art photography with words of Christian encouragement and inspiration ignites more of our senses. Now, the reader isn’t only reading a good devotional or story, but they are also fixated on this picture and how it relates to the message. This process has brought so many people to our website (seven11photography.com) with questions that we hope we can answer through our writing and visual artistry. We are all visual creatures, why not add a new dimension to our search for spiritual growth and fulfillment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For me, there is nowhere in Atlanta better to connect with nature than Sweetwater Creek State Park. I love to take visiting friends to the aquarium or World of Coca Cola, but there is something about taking them just outside the city to show them just how tranquil our outdoor life can be too! But you really can’t go wrong with most places in Atlanta, it’s a photographer’s dream city. Naturally, this is assuming we are not talking about baseball season. If that’s the case, I would like to change my answer to Truist Park, Go Braves!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In every picture I take, God is the ultimate artist, I only capture His masterpieces. So, I owe everything to Him. But next to me is my beautiful wife, Kathleen, who provides me creativity and encouragement around every turn. I wouldn’t be doing what I do if it wasn’t for her.
