We had the good fortune of connecting with Darius King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darius, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Simple, it’s my relationship with God, my prayer life, my perseverance, and most importantly my strong faith !

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Even before starting my career, since I could remember I’ve always wanted to stand out and dare to be different (i.e. my fashion, my vibe, or even down to my hair choices). So having that mindset I’ve been able to use it to the best of my abilities in my now career. From my fashion sense, to my vibe & versatility as a whole, my creative mind, and even down to my work on my clients which definitely sets me apart from others. I am most proud of every trial and tribulation because what hasnt killed me, has and continues to make me stronger! They say practice makes perfect, and while I’m still a work in progress, I can say I have grown TREMENDOUSLY from where I started from at the age of 18. I had to hear and see the criticism, face ridicule and rejection, the lies and accusations even to this day *chuckles*. However again, what hasn’t killed me continues to make me stronger! I’ve learned many things along the way and continue to learn as I grow in my career both personally and professionally! The greatest lesson I’ve learned is to always put God first; “ I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me!” And with that being said, I would like the readers and the world to know that the story has only just begun. Yes I am young, vibrant, full of compassion, creative, God fearing, and purpose driven! I feel like I am the Andy Warhol or Missy Elliot of my generation *chuckles*, the best is yet to come!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Anyone who knows me knows that one of my ALL-TIME favorite spots is Harold’s Chicken and Ice bar, it’s always the catfish with the mild sauce, and a strawberry Hennessy margarita that’ll make you want to pimp slap not just slap, but pimp slap yo mama for me ! It’s such a great vibe, amazing service, food, hookah and the music just makes you want to stay and get another round of whatever you had to drink! Atlanta is so huge and when I’m not working which is rare, I love to just relax and unwind! I don’t really like going out too much and neither do a lot of my friends so it’s perfect Harold’s is the one stop shop for a great midday or night time vibe!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost I have to say my superhero-bestfriend, my mother. Watching her sacrifice, raise a man on her own, and still be a provider still to this day motivates me to keep going. Women in general are strong however, My mother and the other women along her side that helped raise me are in fact the strongest women I know! I want to give a shoutout to you. To my mother, my GG, grandma Carolyn, and my aunt Steph. All of this is for y’all thank you for the love, the lessons, discipline, support and knowledge you shown, taught and instilled in me along with the tough love, needed that too!*chuckles*. Without you all and God I wouldn’t be half the man I am today! I love you.
