We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Hicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
First and foremost I hate working for people dumber than me I hate working know I’m making someone other my people making them more money in one or two days then I’ll ever make for myself working for them. I also wanted something I could pass down to my children. I also wanted something I could use to help others and give them an opportunity if I execute things right. And lastly I know ownership and multiple streams of income are avenues to wealth and starting one business would open ideas and opportunities to open other businesses.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I am most proud of is creating a platform for my area (717) on a broad market for its following and experience ; That promotes other aspiring or experienced entrepreneurs, artist, politicians, to every day opinionated people. That also gives back to it’s community by sponsoring events with the assistance of my supporters, community, family and guest. Raising over $2,500 for health/nutrition awareness giving out fresh fruits, vegetables, and variety of seeds to grow your own produce. Also giving out nutritional Halloween snacks instead of candy and giving of safe trick or treat tips. That’s what sets me apart from many other platforms or entrepreneurs where I am from. Not to mention my content is a raw, real, dedicated to assisting others in their path. I got here with a vision and understanding the different opportunities this industry could create. Was it easy ? Somewhat fore the most part as far as creating content and networking thats a piece of cake for me which can be a struggle for some. But I’m still learning a lot of the business and technology side which is the not so easy part because technology just isn’t my thing and I don’t have a team I do this alone. Plus is kind of a new industry that’s almost making the rules up as it grows with no set blueprint and also evolving as it ages. So unless you have a background in media or a huge following you have to put more faith in your content. Its like the blind leading the blind it’s a few basic blueprint lays out you can be advised if walking in completely blind but once you in and understand marketing there really no set blueprint to be successful other have a huge following or have undeniable content. What I’ve learned along the way is how the business world is real risky, networking is important in life period and you truly never know how someone feels about you until you watch how they support your dreams. My brand was made for my people, family, friends and people I network with of all walks, religion, and race on earth.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Harrisburg, Pa which is the state capital located in central Pennsylvania. It’s a small city sounded other small city’s and towns which are all pretty similar as far as nite life and the surge of growing entrepreneurs, promoters and artist that have created more big city attractions and events to Harrisburg and central Pa. We’re also in short driving range of Philadelphia, The DMV area, And New York. Baltimore harbor area is a personal favorite get a way area for me with a variety of great food restaurants and fresh seafood spots. But again a surge in the Harrisburg (717) area with businesses from food, events, clothing and so don’t have travel too far to enjoy yourself any given night. As far as my hood particularly its few bars for each section of town. S&Ds lounge is the main attraction uptown; that’s the part of town I was born and raised. I ain’t allowed in that establishment but never the less its biggest bar or lounge in that part of town. Jazzland has the best variety of dranks and bang for your buck. Thats on the other side of town but its a small city exactly a 7 min drive from S&Ds. With plenty surrounding bars and restaurants to choose and short distance or York, Lancaster, Carlisle, Hershey, Hollywood casino, Reading, State College and many other places.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people I would have to shout out in recognition of my story starting with my parents for teaching certain morals and character traits and my mother showing first hand how to start, run, and operate a legal business consistently with character, love, and morals. There’s my 5th grade (Mrs.Harris) and 6th grade (Mrs.Penn) teachers two strong black women that were the first two people in my life to tell me what I could possibly be if I maxed out my potential outside of my parents. There’s an associate by the nick name of “Black” that introduced me to the industry I started my first business in (podcasting). A’Dionne; host of “The Chronicles of living” podcast who was the first person to guide and give me knowledge I needed in my industry. To LaShawn an entrepreneur and aspiring philanthropist; who assisted me obtaining my LLC and supporting it. To all those ( too many to name ) who’ve help me and supported my along the way like Rose Coppin; another independent podcaster of “ Mamas lyfe” who’ve I’ve networked with on my journey.
