Meet Melissa De Leon | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa De Leon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13. What this verse means to me is everything! In my hardest moments repeating it to myself, made me strong and focused! Knowing that through Christ everything is possible no matter what are the odds! Applying it to my business has helped me not quit! When there are moments of despair, it reminds me that I can do it!! To keep pushing and not give up!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business consists of making jewelry and scrunchies! I also sell mexican traditional clothing and more! I am so proud of being able to bring my culture into the community I am in! Being from Texas a Mexican American, growing up in my culture, made me fall in love with it! At the beginning of my journey of this business wasn’t easy at all! There were times I thought wasn’t good enough for my community as a Business! I wanted to quit many times! I felt that what I was bringing wasn’t trendy or good enough! Believing in Jesus made me realize that I can do this through him! My prayer has kept me going no matter what I felt or saw. Now I feel stronger and confident about what I bring into my business! This year has marked my business in many wonderful ways! This business has helped me also overcome many things in my personal life! After my moms passing I needed to do something to cope with her death! Keeping myself busy while doing something I love too! I am so blessed and happy that this year my business has flourished! Knowing that others feel inspired by what My family and myself do, has definitely touched my heart and soul.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lets start off with a good place to go to eat would be at the Banks Food Hall! Love that place bc there’s so many choices. Its family oriented and a great view to the Chattahoochee River! After the Banks hall, you can take a walk by the river where you can enjoy a beautiful view of our nature! For shopping I recommend to visit the Market Days on Broadway, starting with flowers, food, bake goods, farmers, and handmade goods! You can find so many makers there like myself! There are so many makers stores you can go to and get to enjoy all the creativity they bring! For example, Vintageville, Bluebelle, Gallerie 143, and much more!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family! That includes my husband and my 4 girls.
