We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabrina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up, I was never taught financial literacy. I worked job after job without being satisfied or elevated in life. In 2019, I had a phone conversation with my two older sisters. We discussed the status of our lives and how we could possibly change them. After that conversation, I continued to do what wasn’t working. About 5 months went by and I found myself reflecting back on that conversation and truly decided it was time to do things differently. I wrote a list of things I excelled at and things I found interesting. My two biggest interests were helping people and trucking. I decided to create a cleaning company. It forever has changed my life and the way I look at business or work. I was scared, hopeful, determined, and doubtful all at once each day, but I never gave up. My businesses changed my life and have given me a new level of financial confidence and literacy that I had not known before.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the proud owner and CEO of Just Keepin’ It Clean, LLC (a cleaning service) and Keepin’ It Truckin’ LLC (a freight dispatch service).
The things that set me apart from other businesses in my industry are that I have truly made it my responsibility to learn. I cleaned for more than 3 years before starting my own cleaning company. I still go out and lend a hand to my workers on the days when things get hectic and I have created a family-oriented atmosphere with my clients. In trucking, I received my CDLs and experienced being a driver before providing services to other drivers. I became more aware of situations that I may not have, had I not gained experience over the road.
As the old saying goes, “Nothing in life worth having comes easy.” Yes, I have endured my hardships as with any business but I believe they open a new way of thinking as a business owner. You create new ways to avoid those small hurdles. You take risks to open your business to new levels.
I started both companies from the ground up and the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you have to take all parts of your business, constantly assess them, and place people in a position to grow in your business but also help grow your business.
If I could tell the world about my businesses, my brand, and my story I would tell them that no matter who doubted me, no matter how many times I failed, and no matter what obstacles I overcame, I always adapt, learn, and pushed forward with a smile on my face. I’m in the business of service and my pleasure isn’t from the money, it’s knowing I did my best to make 1 person happy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Myrtle Beach is a tourist city full of attractions, local restaurants. and beaches! My best friend and I would definitely hit the beach, relax, and just take a load off for a day. We would definitely grab some good food while supporting local businessowners like Gabrielle’s Grill, MiMi’s Soul Food, or Flamingo’s. Book a spa day and get our nails done with Nailed by Neshia. Go to a Nola’z Piano Bar, sing Karaoke, eat some good seafood, and dance our lives away for the night. There is so much more that we would do if time permits, maybe sip and paint, or even go on the casino boat. All in all, I would be sure she has a great experience and lets her hair down while visiting.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
No one gets anywhere in life on their own. I would love to shout out my eldest sister, Shantelle Stewart. I’ve watched her grow into a phenomenal businesswoman and mom. She is literally my go-to for almost all business questions I don’t seem to find answers to. Shantelle has a true passion for helping people, pushing them in the right direction, and always being knowledgeable by keeping herself open to all things!
