We had the good fortune of connecting with Coach Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Coach, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
You’ve got to learn to leave the table when love’s no longer being served. -Nina Simone
This is by far my favorite quote. For generations women have me told it is their role as the more emotional in tune gender to make relationships work. That said, we have stayed in many relationships and or situations well passed their time. Speaking for myself, as a woman of color, I spent years either fighting to get a set at the table or fighting to keep my seat once I was there. That goes for both personally and professional sectors of my world.
For me, this quote removes the shame of walking away from situations or positions that no longer services its purposes of adding positivity and inspiration into your life.
So, I created and trademarked the quote “There are plenty of chairs already at the table. Bring the stage!” The underlying message in this quote is, you no longer have to or need to fight for a seat at anyone’s table. Tap into your strengths and bring your own stage for them to watch from their table.
I teach confidence and self-development because I remember what it felt like when I in a season of self-doubt. That isn’t a feeling that anyone deserves.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
You maybe be wondering what sets Gold Mind Thoughts about from other coaching services. Notwithstanding, I serve a diverse population. My real-world experiences with trauma and post-traumatic growth allows me to service survivors of gun violence, domestic abuse, and long-term illness. My Loving Yourself Through the Trauma coaching sessions, workshops, and workbook have been a game changer in the way survives view themselves. It is extremely rewarding when I am able to help a client shift their mindset from being a victim to being a survivor.
Being fully transparent, in the beginning, my greatest obstacles and or challenges were fear, self-doubt, and job security. Please know my success has not come to me with ease. I have experienced a great deal of closed doors and heard many “Nos’” before I decided to make the necessary mindset adjustments to turn the “Nos” into “Yes!”. However, my faith has kept me grounded. I continued to pray for things I have now and pour inspiration into the world. However, after doing some self-inventory, I realized that the only way to actually achieve the success I wanted and deserved, was to pour my time and energy into my business full-time. I realized I was only attaining minimal success because I was only giving part-time effort. Once that changed, doors opened, and the “Nos” quitting turned into “Yes”. I am now the Founder and CEO of my own business, a published author, and currently in the process of attaining my Ph.D. in Advanced Human Behavior.
Two of my proudest moments of late are being inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who’s Who of America Biographical Registry as an emerging new leader and the publishing my two latest books “Grieving to Heal: The Shadow Boarding Experience and The Recondition: A Guide to Loving Yourself Through the Trauma”.
A message to the readers:
I am human just like you. I have ups as well as downs, but that’s what makes every experience with me personable. My clients leave each coaching sessions with ready to use tools and effective strategies to get started becoming the best version of themselves immediately. Again, my strategies have been tested in are proven to be successful. With Gold Mind Thoughts you not only gain a Coach, but you also become a part of The Recondition Community!
Life has a way of throwing lemons, stones, or hugs and forces us to make difficult decisions in the moment. Nevertheless, it’s what you do with the that makes you resilient. To that end, make lemonade with the lemons, build you a waterfall with the stones, and love yourself and others with the hugs.
Let your perception of the world be a reflection of the love you pour into it!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It’s interesting that you ask this question, I am in the process of expanding my clientele to Atlanta. Thus far, I have virtual meetings with clients while quarterly traveling to the Buckhead part of ATL. I am also in the process of looking for an office space to utilize while in ATL. My goal is by next year this time, I will have a physical office space and property in Atlanta making it my official second home.
However, to answer your question, I love the night life! There is something about the lighting in the evens that puts me in a peaceful state of mind. My best friend and I are both adventurist people thus, we enjoy taking the tourist route when traveling. Checking social media for Black owned up and coming businesses. Looking for locations with great background scenery for photos. Sometimes, I even ask my clients for recommendations.
Itinerary:
Day 1: In search for the best peach cobbler chicken & waffles
Day 2: Glam Shoot: Makeup and photo shoot by inspiring makeup artist in photographer (This is intentional, I am a firm believer of giving someone a shot. It’s important to me to be a “Yes” for those who have been overwhelmed by cluster of “Nos”. I have been there before; thus, I want to be the yes on their journey to success.)
Day 3: Spoken Word lounge (Feeding our minds inspiration to spark creativity while embracing the culture.)
Day 4: Networking at a pop-up shop.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is such a great question, there are so many individuals I can thank for helping mold the person I have become. However, I want to dedicate this specific shoutout to my mom, Barbara Barnes!
As far back as I can remember, I have watched her wear trauma like a graceful evening gown. Head held high and tears held back with a gentle smile. I never saw her raise her voice to prove a point and belittle others even when they may have been unkind to her. Instead, you always seemed to remain calm and collective allowing her quiet power to take charge. As I developed into a professional navigating a world that was not always welcoming to woman of color with a loud voice full of creativity. It was then when I begun to understand that what she was showing me was resilience. She was preparing me to be intentional about the access I give others to my emotions. A hidden gem that I would forever cherish because I know now the more access others have to your emotions, the more control they have over your responses.
I can honestly say that my mother’s coat of armer was her way of ensuring my sisters and I grew up understanding that not every thought has to be said out loud. Sometimes, you have to let your power be in your silence and your actions will lead you where you need to be. That is, if you are intentional with your words and faithful with your purpose your journey will be well worth the travel.
I am honored to use this platform to give this shoutout is the woman I watched with such class, poise, and excellence, commanding rooms before I knew what that meant. She is the truest Most Excellent Rose. She is me and I am her. She is my mom!
I love you mom!
