We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Ecker Borgerding and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The basis of starting my own business all stemmed from me needing flexible hours to take care of my miracle baby. I began photography when I was in college for my graphic design degree and I needed to take an extra class. I quickly fell in love with photography, but I never imagined it would become a career path for me. Shortly after I took my photography class, I became pregnant with my son Knox. When Knox was 36 hours old, he quit breathing and was clinically dead for 30 minutes. By the grace of God and the incredible NICU staff at Gwinnett Medical Center our sweet boy survived and was able to come home a month later. Due to the event, Knox had a lot of therapy and early intervention help and I had to put my graphic design career on hold. When Knox was around nine months old and was beginning to make tremendous progress, I decided I wanted to start helping my husband with some of our bills and just get out of the house in general. I needed to do something that had a very flexible schedule, so I picked up my camera and began reteaching myself how to shoot. I very quickly fell in love with capturing other people’s happiest moments. I loved getting to be creative and share in all of the milestones of the sweet families I was documenting. The passion I have for capturing joy has lead me into a full-time photography career. It has been a lot of work to get to the place where I am at now, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I am so grateful to everyone who has allowed me to document a piece of their journey. As for my Knox man, he is an AMAZING seven years old boy who is thriving.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe what sets me a part from others is just my passion for what I do. I truly love my clients and being a part of their story. I have gotten to share so many sweet milestones with so many sweet families and the begin to become like my own family. It has definitely not been an easy journey to where I am. I have had some uphill battles, but I just kept pressing on and continued to learn. A super hard lesson was learning that I am important and matter just as much as my clients. I had to learn to respect my own time and boundaries. I would love for the world to know that I am so thankful for each and every client that has let me capture their family. I am thankful for all the feedback and help to bring me to where I am at. I am so incredibly blessed to do something I love every day.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for the weekend, I would have a lot of places to take them! We live in the Buford/Braselton area and we have so many spots around here that are so much fun! For drinks, we love to go to Aqua Terra. We love Bare Bones or Cotton Calf for fancier dinners. When we are looking for a place to just have a calm evening out we enjoy Jack’s Public House or Biba’s Italian. We really enjoy getting to go to Truist Park and cheer on our Braves. The Battery is also a super fun area to take friends!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would LOVE to dedicate my shoutout to my family! They have been with me and supported me on every step! Cory, Knoxie, Lenny Lu, Mom, Thits, and Billy, THANK YOU for making my dreams a reality and walking this journey with me! I AM FOREVER GRATEFUL!
