Meet Nykierah Sidibe | Founder and Owner of The Official Girl LLC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nykierah Sidibe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nykierah, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
For some reason, social media has made people think that Entrepeauneurship is a breeze. Many people think that it’s a walk in the park. But when you first decide to start a business, you may not see money flowing in until about year 2-3. For the first few years, you may only be making back what you put in. When that is the case, you are not making any profit at all. You want to be able to make back 5x, 10x, 500x what you’re putting out and then some. There may also be days where you’re making lots of profit and some days where you’re not making any profit at all. But never give up. Analyze what factors may be influencing what’s going on with your business and truly stay committed to growth. Fall in love with the process. Success does not happen overnight. Work for what you want & don’t stop until you get it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a child, I always thought I would be a lawyer. I never knew that I would end up pursuing a career in entrepreneurship. As I got older I started to learn more about myself, and I learned that I did want to in fact start my own business. I knew I wanted to help women express who they truly are through fashion, rather than feeling like they have to fit in by trying to be trendy. I also knew that I wanted to inspire my peers and give back to my community in some way shape or form. I am the business owner of The Official Girl LLC, a brand aimed to do all those things. I define an Official Girl as a go-getter. A hard-working, ambitious woman knows what she wants out of life and won’t stop until she gets it. The mission of The Official Girl LLC is to help elevate the confidence of women through fashion while also bringing a fresh and unique perspective into the industry. My entrepreneurship journey has been a huge roller coaster. I started off with a streetwear brand, then I went into skincare and facials and now I’m back in the fashion industry. Going through these phases has really taught me that having a fashion company is truly what I want out of life. Making my consumers happy with my clothing is the avenue in entrepreneurship that makes me the happiest. Once I learned this about myself, I stayed committed. Although it may not be easy, once you find your lane put the work in and stay consistent. I’m learning that consistency and commitment are 2 things that can ultimately drive individual success. The most crucial factor that has helped with the success of my brand is truly finding why. As an entrepreneur, your why is what keeps you going. I know that my journey in life is way bigger than myself. It’s for my peers and future generations of my family. I want young men and women from Philadelphia to know that anything is possible by giving back to my community. I want them to understand that life is way bigger than Philly and the things you see on a day-to-day basis. I want to leave a legacy for my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and so on. I just want them to be able to live a life that is comfortable. I want my legacy to be remembered as a self-driven, creative, and well-spirited woman. I want to leave a mark on this world so huge that even when I’m gone, my name will still mean so much and be an inspiration to others. I not only want people to remember me for my success but also for my well-rounded and loving spirit.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m such a chill and mellow-toned girl that the party scenes aren’t always my thing. I’m the type to enjoy a fabulous spa day, getting my nails done, getting my hair done, going to wineries, and doing all things that make me feel good. I’m the true definition of a soft girl. But, if a friend were coming into town I would take them out for a nice massage spa day. Then we can go shopping and to the nailery because who doesn’t love to shop or get their nails done? And to end the day off, we can go to a nice black-owned restaurant because I love supporting black-owned businesses.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I would love to dedicate a shoutout to my mom and siblings. My entrepreneurship journey has been a huge roller coaster and there have been times when I truly wanted to tap out. But my family is what has kept me going. During times when I’ve had no inspiration, creators block and no drive to do anything, they are who helped me rediscover my passions within myself. I’ve suffered many losses at a young age, but because of them I never gave up on my dreams. I dedicate everything I do to my family and they are the ones I want to ultimately see happy in the end.
