We had the good fortune of connecting with Qiana Glasper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Qiana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Initially, I never planned to start Qi Essential Oils. I got tired of wearing perfumes that didn’t last all day and the ones that did, were expensive. I made the decision about 7 years ago to stop wearing perfumes and began wearing body oils. One day I made a random scent with the body oils and I was blown away on how good it smelled. I continued for about a year making scents, then friends and family started asking for them. At the time, I was not writing anything so it was whatever I poured and mixed is what you would get. I always told friends and family, it’s a one of a kind scent so make sure you use it sparingly because I have no clue what’s in it. Well that didn’t last long because more people began asking for my body oils. That’s when I made the decision to form Qi Essential Oils. It was only supposed to be body oils but it quickly became shea butters then sugar scrubs. They became an instant hit and over the past few years, we have continued to add products and new scents that people fall in love with!!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Qi Essential Oils oils apart form other businesses is that our products are made in small batches but packed with LOVE! Each product made is felt to make you feel like it was curated just for you. With handcrafted scents, we’ve made something for everyone to enjoy. To say it was easy would be an understatement. Doubting yourself and your craft is something that caught me often. To know there are many others doing the same thing you’re doing plays on your mental but knowing what sets you apart makes all the difference. I told myself daily, you have a great product that people are going to love!! You have to believe in yourself and speak positivity in yourself! I practiced making the best products I could and look at me now, FLOURISHING!! I’m beyond blessed at the amount of support I’ve gotten over the years is unmatched. To know that people want to see you succeed and be your best is so humbling. Now, it’s up to me to spread that same knowledge, support, and wisdom to my community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend recently visited and I’m always excited when they come!! This visit, we celebrated a birthday so we went to Trulucks for dinner. During the day, we toured the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and ate at Kitchen Cray. The jerk wings are AMAZING!! We then went to the Wharf and visited 12 Stories and enjoyed the views and music. Any place in DC will always be the move! With so much culture, there is literally something for any and everyone to do!!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to ALL the friends and family that pushed me to start this new chapter in my life! Without you all, I wouldn’t be in this place!! LOVE YOU ALL!
