We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandrea Terrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sandrea, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is proving to myself that I was more than capable of achieving success. Growing up, I never thought I could be successful with the childhood I had. I thought I could only do enough to get by. However, over the years I’ve challenged myself to defy norms and push myself beyond measure. Knowing that I created something successful is simply amazing.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I originally started Sweet Baby Beauty company with two of my close friends Jaya and Jada. It started as a group project for class and we handcrafted skin care items that were sold in our community. Being magnet high school students, we didn’t necessarily have the time or budget to continue making products for the business so we decided to end it. Then Jaya and I decided to bring it back around, this time selling eyelashes. Being that both of us were starting college, it was easy selling them on and around our campuses. As we both ventured off into our majors, we sold out our products and halted the business again. We then decided that I would take over and sell eyelashes and press on nails for the brand. As I took interest in nails, I taught myself how to do them by watching YouTube videos, TikToks, and reading up on it. I eventually started doing nails and selling lashes near my college campus. This is what got me to where I am today. Starting a business was never easy, schedules collided and life happened. I would always find myself asking what more could I do for this business to flourish. From finding new things to sell to even selling this a different way, I would always find a way to overcome challenges that came with Sweet Baby Beauty Company. The lessons I’ve learned over time is to have high expectations for yourself, when you achieve them you’ll be impressed with yourself. Another lesson I’ve learned is to have patience and do not base your business growth off someone else’s. I believe you have what you have exactly when you need it, if you don’t have it you are not ready for it yet. I want the world to know that I am the last of my nine siblings and a full time college student, I never had a relationship with my mom until 19 years old, my dad was deceased by my age of 10, and I currently work 3 jobs including my business. I never allowed obstacles in my life to break me down or use them as an excuse. I used my obstacles to motivate me and keep me focused on my end goal, becoming successful.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting the area I’d take them to Cochran mill park for a hike and beautiful waterfalls. For breakfast, I’d take them to Thumbs up diner, I’ve been going since I was a toddler and their breakfast never misses. For lunch, I’d take them to Fellaship lounge the shrimp and grits are chef’s kiss. For dinner I’d take them to the palm, their blackened salmon is the best I’ve ever had. An interesting place to check out is the battery near the ballpark, they have something for every age and you’ll definitely have a good time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I really appreciate my great aunt and grandmother for never giving up on me. They always had an opportunity to but chose otherwise. They constantly motivate me and let me know that I can do anything I put my mind to and I’m more than enough.
