We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Ent and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from Woodstock, GA but now live in Charlotte, NC! Growing up my family and I were super close. There was a lot of laughter in my household, constant sleepovers with friends and a bunch of goofing around. Though my parents worked extremally hard, they always made time to share a laugh or a funny story with us. And they always taught us to be kind to others. If I learned anything from my parents, it’s to be kind. Growing up we struggled a bit, but we never let that kept us from making sure we treated everyone equally and I plan on using that same mind set when I start a family of my own.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I knew I wanted to be an event coordinator when I started planning a girls self-esteem conference my senior year of high school for my senior project. I loved finding the speakers and bands, planning and games and raffles, and just the overall feeling of seeing the attendees enjoying themselves. Afterwards, I started helping my dad at the Metropolitan Club in Alpharetta where he was the Venue Manager. I learned some tips and tricks about the best way to set up and break down an event, etc.
Overtime, I combined the “treat people with kindness” mindset my parents taught me with the knowledge I learned from previous jobs and decided it was time to take the leap! When it comes to working with my clients, I want them to feel comfortable enough with me to where they feel like they’re talking to a friend. I think sometimes business owners can get lost in the business side of weddings and forget that this day is something that your clients have dreamed of and will never forget. Its such an honor being apart of someone’s big day and I not only want to help bring that day together for them but also, be there to help them celebrate it.
It hasn’t been easy but I’ve loved every minute of it and can’t wait to see where the journey takes me and the amazing people I meet on the way!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Because I’m a Woodstock, GA girl, I gotta take them downtown Woodstock first!
We’ll start with drinks and small plates at Rootstock & Vine, then make our way to Reformation Brewery for some live music. After a few drinks there we’ll head over to the rooftop at Pure.
The next day we’ll start the day of at J. Christopher’s then head to Ponce City Market for some shopping and lunch. Then to the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, and the Skyview Ferris Wheel.
I’d also make sure there is a favorite band or artist in town. There are so many great places for concerts in Atlanta, I’m sure someone will be in town! Afterwards, I’ll take them to Marietta Diner for a super late dinner and a giant slice of cake!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I have to give a shout out to my friends and family. They know how long I’ve dreamed of owning my own business in the wedding industry and they’ve helped with through every obstacle and celebration along the way. Mom, dad, Will and Judy, there aren’t enough words to express how lucky I feel to be apart of such a loving, goofy, kind family like ours.
To my life long friends Taylor, Tara, Jessica, and Hope. You all have done nothing but support me in all of my crazy and wild ideas. You somehow still keep me sane and grounded from hundreds of miles away. Also a big shoutout to my friend Kiersten in Charlotte, who has become an extremely important part of my life and welcomed me into her family right away.
I want to thank all of my amazing managers at David’s Bridal in Kennesaw that helped me begin my wedding knowledge journey and my former boss, Heather, and the team with Heatherly Event & Floral in Charlotte that was willing to take me in with no previous knowledge of floral or wedding design.
I also have to thank Jessica Surovchak Photography for answering any questions I have about running a business and for suggesting me for this interview!
