We had the good fortune of connecting with Shane Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shane, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Helena, Arkansas, and raised in FLINT, Michigan. My background in both cities taught me resilience and gave me the tools to allow my dreams to be bigger than my fears.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a certified holistic health coach and founder of Healthy Just Feels Right. A healthy lifestyle increases the average life expectancy by over six years. Globally, 3.5% and 48% of deaths are attributed to depression and diabetes respectively. I established Healthy Just Feels Right to lower these mortalities by championing holistic wellness. I provide prepping services and provide data-driven plans that help individuals avoid chronic symptoms and illnesses associated with poor nutrition, lack of exercise, and mental distress. As a survivor of depression and anxiety, I can relate to their issues and offer a holistic transformational path. I also tie mood and behavior through food as well and design plans around it. I live by the phrase “Let thy food but thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. I am a motivational speaker as well as the author of my first children’s book, “Rainbow Power” and three nutrition books due to be released in early August.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say the Flint Cultural Center highlight the history of FLINT, also the Flint Public Art Project which has murals painted by artists from around the world on building throughout Flint. We have the Longway Planetarium which is very beautiful at night. We have the big FLINT sign downtown that everyone comes in town always hit to take pictures in front of it. Places to eat would have to be the Farmer Market which has a little bit of everything. 501 Bar & Grill and my favorite are Soggy Bottom which has the best Black Bean Burger.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to Shout out the IGNITE program at the GENESEE COUNTY JAIL, this program is breaking the chains of generational incarceration. I am thankful for them giving me an opportunity to run a nutrition program inside the jail to help end nutritional generational habits with the inmates. I would like to thank Michigan State University for giving me the platform to get this class going.
