We had the good fortune of connecting with Krisjana Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krisjana, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk-taking is essential to growth! If I haven’t taken a risk in a couple of months, then I feel that I am not really challenging myself. I am more comfortable operating in a conservative manner. The thought of potentially failing is never something that I look forward to doing. Saying yes to a project that causes me to operate in new territories has really shown me that I am stronger than I give myself credit for. Taking risks even in a COVID environment has allowed me to grow and expand my team, my business, and really helped me understand that if you want to achieve a goal, then you have to learn to be comfortable taking risks.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kris Lavender is a Wedding and Event Planning company in Atlanta, Georgia.ur overall goal is to see your happy on your event day! When it comes down to it, most good planners can maneuver through the logistics of an event day. What sets us apart is the relationships that we build with the people along the way. You cannot direct a 400 guest count wedding all by yourself. You are going to need amazing catering, photographers, DJs, and more to help you make the day great. We also love our clients and tend to keep in touch with them past their events. It is amazing to receive Holiday cards and baby announcements years after their wedding day! Getting to this point has not been easy. This industry is filled with “preferred” members and such. Even though I have been able to make many of those lists, getting to that point has been eye-opening. It is never a good feeling when someone underestimates you because you are not in this group or that group. Staying focused and learning from mistakes has allowed us to get better and better every year. My goal is to become an industry leader… a black female industry leader. I want the world to really see me in that light. I hope that the work my team and I produce shows that we genuinely care about people and their stories. WE want our clients to know that we appreciate them inviting us to share in their forever vows on the ceremony day or the excitement of the new baby. we don’t take those moments for granted.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many great places to visit in Atlanta and it really depends on the mood of the trip. Hmmm, I would definitely take the group to The Breakfast Club on Ivan Allen Jr Blvd…shoutouts to THE best chicken and waffles! IOn care what anyone says! We would definitely visit a spa or two. Some of my favorites are Jeju Traditional Korean Spa and Love.Beauty. Nourish. The owner Mary Bogart is amazing!! Maybe do a picnic at Piedmont Park with a spread from Schmores Board and walk off all those good eats at the botanical garden I would also fit in some Atlanta classics like Atlantic Station, Georgia Aquarium… you can never get tired of seeing whale sharks. Also, Ponce City Market. The beltline is always interesting as well!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The person who deserves the most credit in this shoutout goes to my husband. The ultimate risk-taker! He is an amazing partner and teammate. He is my go-to when I have difficulty trying to figure something out and pushes me to continuously grow, no matter the conditions. Without out him, I am not sure how far Kris Lavender would be right now.
