We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Damiano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mark, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
It took me a few seconds to draw it, but it took me 34 years to learn how to draw it in a few seconds – Paula Scher
I believe Picasso said something along the same lines as well.
I love this quote because it quantifies the experience and mastery that serves as the foundation for great work, and that’s what the client is paying for. It shifts the focus of value to the end result rather than the hours required to get there.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think like any artist, after a certain period of time we develop a style and that’s really what sets us apart from others.
I followed many different paths to get where I am today, both good and bad – but there was a creative center to all of them. Some things came easy, but many did not – and the ones that didn’t were the most satisfying. I try to remember that every time things get a little tough.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Artist Miya Bailey is building an amazing artist community/district on Peters Street in Castleberry Hill – definitely worth a visit.
Any event at The Benz is worth the trip.
Too much good food to pick from,
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many. To name a few…
My parents, for never jumping on the cliché “art is not a viable career path” bandwagon.
My early art instructors and mentors.
All of the weird and interesting people that have come in and out of my life throughout the years.
