We had the good fortune of connecting with Icey Da Boss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Icey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Coming from Roxboro, Nc – it was hard to get noticed and get booked so I decided to throw my own events to give myself the platform I felt like I deserved. I was always told that I bring a lot of energy when I perform, so the name just sort of fell into my lap. I handpicked a solid lineup of some of the dopest artist in the area at the time and made my ideas come to life for my first event “The Energy” and I’ve been chasing that feeling from that night ever since.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Energy Entertainment Platform is a company created “By The Artist, For The Artist” in efforts to give upcoming, hardworking talent a chance to showcase their art in a creative way. Our personality, quality and innovation sets up apart from every other local platform with the way that we execute and produce the best events/content in the area. No one gives Artist opportunities, and if they do, they charge us an arm and leg for literally nothing. I’ve been apart of situations where I’ve paid over $1000 to perform-while I did gain the connections, things like that are not very beneficial. I’ve created a platform where artist can properly roll-out their album/releases on our podcast (The Energy Gawds Podcast), talk about the release on “Da Bussdown” (two-part series that explains the release), “The Sauce”(our musical spinoff of MTV’s “Guy Code/Girl Code) and more! We are constantly meeting and creating ideas. What makes us different? We actually put those plans into action and all it takes is actually supporting our movement to get involved with all of these services.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I hope you came to eat because it’s tons of great places to check out the whole week!..but if you visiting me I’m SURE you’re gonna have some munchies. We definitely gotta slide by Yikky Wings by Country Bo Flye in Henderson, Mr. Fries Man in the Bull City (Durham), or one of my favorite spots Mellow Mushroom.

Ima dust you off on go karts at Frankie’s, play games at any barcade (they are all Lit), and I’m pretty sure the Local 506 in Chapel Hill has somebody cool on stage tonight 😈

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this to My son, Lil Man. The reason why I can’t give up.
