We had the good fortune of connecting with Libra Hicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Libra, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
Our Children’s Story, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that strives to assist the special needs community. Since COVID we’ve been able to transition into a virtual platform that gives us space to connect and work with those who we typically wouldn’t have access to. We are able to extend workshops, classes, etc. to families across the United States who are in need. My organization is scheduled to offer financial literacy classes, small business opportunities as well as health and wellness workshops. COVID has brought many difficulties with families and we want to make sure we are a click away. Easy access to a safe zone to learn how to elevate to your greatest potential is necessary in this time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets Our Children’s Story, Inc apart from others is our reason for what we do. Not many have a pure reason a reason that keeps them in the trenches when things are uncertain. We often get into fields because of the money it could make, hardly for reasons that suit the spirit within. My reason is simple, I live the same life as those I serve. My level of understanding is much different than the average. I am most proud and excited about two things. My partnership with AG Educational Group to create and launch “Digital Learning Cafe’ and Parent Resource Center”. Also, the private Facebook Group, “Sisterhood” will be the primary location for our virtual connections and educational programs. This is a group that will be easily accessible to anyone in need of help. We have been fortunate to move smoothly into a virtual format so that we can continue our mission. To get to where I am today, I had to work, and work very hard. I had to reprogram my thoughts and really work hard to morph the being that you see. Even on days when things were rough and questionable, I still managed to stay in the fight. Not only am I building a business for my family, but I am also building a lasting legacy. I am building freedom and better accessibility to help. It’s not easy and there is still more to do, however, when it’s your purpose, you do it willingly. Lessons on this journey will forever present themselves, the lessons I’ve gotten thus far are consistency, accountability, boundaries, and self-care. These things were non-existent for me and in order to be successful in your purpose, you have to be able to execute these things without emotions being attached. You will tank miserably if you aren’t able to do these things. These things are critical in ensuring a solid foundation for the empire you are building. My story is still being written, what I can say about the chapters I’ve already told is, learn from where my feet have been. And just know that Our Children’s Story, Inc. is built on Knowledge, love, and loyalty.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend come to town to visit, we would go to Malibu Grand Prix for fun. Then back to my home for BBQ, hot tub chat and drinks at my bar. I typically like to be at home and rest since I am always so busy. I like to spend my downtime with my children to make sure I don’t lose them in my quest to build an empire.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My children Anthony Jr. and Lyric Ja’Dore are the ones I owe credit to for the success I have had and continue to have. Anthony Jr. showed me my purpose. My youngest son Lyric Ja’Dore showed me how to fly in my purpose. My parents for showing me what resilience looks like. Showing me how to never quit.
