We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcel Samuel Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcel Samuel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business was important for me because I knew I was capable of more than what kept getting handed to me in life. I would work all day, 10+ hours a day sometimes, just to make someone else rich. The people around me would complain, they turned miserable, and sooner than I even realized, I did too. The wheels really started turning in my head when I was working on set one day and the guy that made more money than me asked me a very simple question that, if getting paid more than me, he should definitely know the answer to. So first, I got mad, at noticing a pattern of people, not smarter than me, telling me what to do. Years later, I decided to take hold of that anger and take some action, I quit my full time job in television to pursue my dream of starting my own video production company. One day it hit me like a ton of bricks, I can actually control my life! The job I hate, I can quit. The women I don’t like dealing with, I can stop. The people I don’t like socializing with, I can stop. These decision were easy, but executing some of them did require some planning and focus, but at some point you get fed up, and you just have to literally make up your mind on what your going to do, and that’s it, period, just do that thing you made up your mind to do, because when you do that, you stop making excuses and start executing.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets my video production business apart from others in this area, is the fact that we try to be more than a camera man. Bubbi Video tries to understand the root of your problem, and then, how can video/content solve that problem. Let’s be honest, most people can’t even tell the difference between iPhone video footage and a 100k Arri camera, and the problem is that most video production companies focus on “video quality.” In the next few years I’ll probably have teams show up to shoot the entire project with just an iphone, lol. In this industry, the money and success lies in problem solving, understanding what problem the video will solve, that’s something the iPhone hasn’t figured out yet, and won’t figure out for a very long time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m such a homebody, if my friend came to town they would be so mad staying with me because I don’t get out much. But if I had to choose, we’d start the day at Stone Mountain park with a good early morning climb of the mountain. Lunch would be served at Ru sans at the piedmont location and then quick stroll around Atlantic Station to walk it off and we’d eventually make it over to my favorite place in all Atlanta right now, IKEA! And since they’re a friend of mine, they’d have to be a movie/film nerd so we’d visit The Broadcast Hub in Lenox Mall. Dinner is served at Fogo de Chao, and afterwards our movie tickets and seats would be waiting for us at IPIC theater downtown. and of course lastly, a night of YouTube reviews and discussions on the movie we just watched back at the room.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that deserve a shout out in my life’s story, but only two people stand out far above the rest; my father and my mother, Marcel and Brigitte Williams. For sticking together, for making a way out of no way, for teaching me to never give up, my mom for teaching me that it’s ok to be different, and to my pops for giving the work ethic to keep going no matter what. They both taught me that I’m capable of whatever I put my mind to.
