We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazzy Kash and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazzy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a child, I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur and all through grade school, i aspired to one day own a company, but even as a college freshman I still did not have a plan solid enough to allow me to see beyond managing someone else’s company. At that time, I did not have the courage or confidence to believe that I could actually own a own my own company. As a college student I decided to work with other people who also had dreams of being a business owner and help them start their businesses, after running into competitive partnerships, I soon realized that when my drive exceeded those who I was helping, I was often met with people who couldn’t appreciate my efforts because they were too busy comparing themselves to me and becoming resentful. After feeling unappreciated several times, and not understanding why I wasn’t able to reach the level I had always dreamed of, I finally decided to step out on faith and create my own brand. I wanted my brand to be something that I could be passionate about and something that could keep me motivated even when times got hard. The overall reason for starting a business was to have something that no one could ever take from me and something that I could be proud of myself about. Starting a business was very personal for me, and it was important to me that I did something that was aligned with my purpose. In 2011, I started my KASH Brand as a public relations agency. Since I was already helping companies grow their brand, it was easy to get clients since I had already made a name for myself by promoting other start up companies for several years prior. Doing something that I was good at, made starting and growing my business exciting because I was finally confident in my capabilities and since then I have restructured my business plan several times but I kept the same brand name because the message behind my business name has a more significant meaning to me than just a business. I am a brand because my brand is me!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
KASH ICONS has evolved over the past 10 years of my business career and has grown as I have expanded my network, knowledge, and experience. What started as a PR firm has grown to become a consulting agency specializing in digital marketing and branding. We believe that we cannot fully help a business unless we help the owner personally. The root of most business solutions begins with ensuring that the business owner is of solid mind and can make decisions under pressure as well as proactively seeking better results. This is where I come in handy and help business owners find solutions to complex business situations. This experience comes from not only growing my own brand but working as an employee for some of the best companies that focus on customer satisfaction and service and then applying those company values to my own brand. Values such as quality over quantity, professionalism, customer retention, and company morale goes a long way when designing business strategies that will help clients in the long run and to ensure companies can grow into corporations. Playing small has never been a goal for me and I don’t intend on setting that example for my clients, and I always push my clients to dream bigger. Ten years ago, when I decided to start a company, it was for personal growth and for me to push myself and in that time I have accomplished almost every goal I have set for myself. This is a testament to my clients to dream big because ten years can fly by and when you stop dreaming, you stop living. There is always more to accomplish and you never know it may not take as long or be as hard as you think it will be when you’re doing something that you’re not only good at but enjoy doing, that makes all the difference.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s no way that I can’t give credit to my sisterhood, the Diamond Writers for their continuous support, love, and encouragement. Since joining the Diamond Writers, I have become more confident in my abilities of writing, speaking, and leading others. By surrounding myself with other women who have also decided that they want more from their life and who uplift and empower one another, I have found the courage to write my own life story, chapter by chapter. After feeling alone on my journey for so long, and struggling with not having the support system that I needed, it has been a great to finally have a group of women who support and motivate one another.
