We had the good fortune of connecting with The Movemeant Band and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi The Movemeant Band, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The moment you’re able to make money, you become your own business. Already established companies may offer more pay and security to begin with, but you won’t grow your brand unless you put in time, money, and effort (even in small increments). While each working as session musicians, the three of us decided to form our own band to be able to write, record, and perform music we all enjoyed. The Movemeant Band represents a purposeful and consistent buildup of momentum towards what we feel are artistically beautiful and good.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The three of us have performed with each other in various bands for close to a decade when we decided to meet up and jam outside of session work. It was a 2-hour jam session in a cold storage shed with no heat in December. We wrote our 6 song EP “Movemeant” (available on all streaming platforms) during that jam, and met the following day to record it. Since then, we’ve kept performing consistently and even doing corporate gigs on the side. We all remain as professional session musicians for income, but we’re proud that The Movemeant is always at the forefront of our collective mission. Each having experience working with established artists and doing higher paying gigs, it can definitely be challenging making sacrifices and taking risks for our band, especially being new and upcoming. However, our dedication unified direction make it all just a labor of love.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Columbus Civic Center is a great place for any event and is family friendly. Ms. Kanise Wiggins, who is a great event coordinator in the city, was kind enough to invite us to perform there in 2021 with our friends from Siantz. Also, After Five is a signature Columbus bar run by Ms. Linda Jackson that has a fun vibe and is great for live entertainment. Finally, The Loft, run by the great Buddy Nelms offers an amazing atmosphere for music. We have each performed there with different bands, but have not had the pleasure of performing as The Movemeant Band. We’re working on it though!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We always like to acknowledge God as both the center and source of our mission. We’d like to thank our families and loved ones for raising us the best they could and supporting us even when we surely didn’t deserve it. Lastly, our friends and Columbus, Georgia community; we’re a small town but we pack a mean punch! Thanks for supporting the MOVEMEANT!
Shoutout to Cody Davis and Jacob Hyder of Everything Musical, as well as Rebecca Kelly! Ya’ll are awesome!
