We had the good fortune of connecting with Bran Black and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bran, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
The one piece of conventional advice that pretty much everyone has been told since an adolescent but I’ve always strongly disagreed with is, “always have a plan b”. To someone like myself, that’s probably some of the worse advice you can give. My logic is pretty simple. It makes zero sense to split your time, energy, and passion into two plans. The time and energy you’re exerting into managing trying to pursue your passion but also making sure your safety net is set, should be put toward your actual dream. Making the chances of you reaching that dream much more likely. Say no to plan b’s! Make your dreams and aspirations a priority!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My company, branNEWmedia, is a media agency that both provides a platform for upcoming creatives and also distributes/builds music artist. From fashion designers to upcoming rappers/singers to producers that make beats. We have a place for you to grow at branNEWmedia. There’s many factors that play into setting us apart from others. But the one that always sticks out to me is our genuine intentions. In this music/media industry, it’s very dangerous to trust others and let your guard down. It’s immensely easy to fall into the wrong hands of someone who sold you dreams and now you’ve been taken advantage of. Not here. Not at branNEWmedia. My team and I take pride in caring for every creative we work with and always keeps their best interest first. Right now I’m most excited for the fashion wing of branNEWmedia, branNEWrunway. As we just recently launched it. Ran by branNEWmedia’s fashion director, J Hibb. We have major plans in the works that we can’t wait to bring to the world. I or my company is anywhere near our goal of being, however, we’ve come tremendously far. I’m not one to rant over all the things that make me great but I’ve overcome a lot of obstacles and I embraced every ounce of it. It’s imperative to not rush through your struggles, but embrace them and learn everything you can from them. As much as I would enjoy to take credit of my so far success, I can’t. I owe everything to my lord and savior, Jesus Christ. He’s blessed me in ways I can’t even put into words. I promised him, as high as he elevates my platform and figure, I’ll always pass his name on. That’s really what I want the world to know about me. I’m a young, grounded, ambitious, and grateful child of God that wants to make a huge positive impact while I’m here on this earth.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend were to come see me in the A, we’d have blast! We’d go to restaurants like McCray’s Tavern Midtown for brunch, Escobar for dinner, and Flying Biscuit or Atlanta Breakfast Club or breakfast. We’d take a hike at Stone Mountain. We’d for sure stop at the Trap Museum to support the culture of rap. I grew up going go carting so it would only be right for us to go to Andretti. I can’t let them leave without doing some shopping so places like Shops at Buckhead or local boutiques would definitely be on the list. That’s one of the reasons why I love living in Atlanta, there’s so much to do!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My sisters Brie Black (founder of 31&rubies) and Bee Farr (founder of Bee’s Beauty Bar + Spa) have played a HUGE role in me being in the position I’m in today. They’ve supported and inspired me from the start. And I know they’ll be riding to the end. Also my supporters that I do and don’t know personally. I want to personally thank each and every individual who’s supported my company, artists, or just my movement in general. I can’t put into words how much I genuinely appreciate the love. It means everything to me!
