We had the good fortune of connecting with Joy Monique and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joy, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
The ideology that you have to lose sleep and burnout to succeed is something I can’t agree with. I believe so heavily in my spiritual beliefs, so although I do work hard, and there are sacrifices that have to be made, I believe that I am graced to have certain doors open for me without me having to break it down. It’s a heavy feeling to believe that you have to make everything happen in your own strength and I don’t want to get to what success looks like for me and be so burned out that I can’t even take in the moment appreciate the journey. “But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me-and not without results. For I have worked harder than any other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.” – 1 Corinthians 15:10

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My official title is a fitness coach but the motivation behind my business is to help my clients use fitness as a catalyst to transform their lives. I’m very big on mindset, manifestation and personal development and I believe the discipline it takes to be consistent in your fitness journey will give way to being more disciplined as an entrepreneur, professional, in relationships and personal growth. I love seeing my clients begin to lose weight and feel better but beyond that I love seeing the transformation of their self-image and confidence. Seeing them walk taller, speak more confidently and not being afraid to take on a challenge gives me the purest form of joy (no pun intended lol). It’s like a reminder of my own journey. I’ve always been overweight, but it got out of control when I felt I lost control of my life. My weight honestly felt like the only thing I had the power to change, and I needed something to be proud of myself for. Losing the weight felt more like lifting a burden and it gave me the confidence in myself to believe that I could work to change other parts of my life as well. That’s the impact I want to have on my clients, helping them to have their own revelations and that’s what I’m most proud of.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The club scene is real big in Atlanta but that’s not really my vibe lol. I’m taking my girl out to a nice wine tasting in North Atlanta, get real dressed up with the high tea kind of vibe. We’re southern so food is going to be on the agenda heavy. Marlow’s Tavern is good for brunch and bottomless mimosas, I heard Gocha’s breakfast bar has some good vegan options so we can pop in there. A little retail therapy in the new shops in Glenwood or the outlets will be fun. Uptown comedy corner will probably have a show on the weekend we can pop in on. There’s a pole dancing studio in Duluth called Spicedpole fitness that we can check out, throw on some heels and have a good time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to all the amazing women and men who poured into me, pushed me, and inspired me with their own journeys to grow into the woman I have become. Thank you to Angel, Deion, Kochera, and Denique for being the ones to inspire me to dream big, showing me the importance of having systems in place for my business, and staying spiritually grounded. There are so many others who have only been friends online but have motivated me to stay persistent with their words of encouragement and support, so I want to thank them too.
