Meet Xzavia Thomas | Graphic Designer & Youtuber

We had the good fortune of connecting with Xzavia Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Xzavia, what makes you happy? Why?
The main thing that makes me happy is being able to create YouTube videos. Now I know it sounds like a cliché, but I truly feel I can express myself further in a different way beyond making graphics. It’s honestly satisfying to go through the steps of making a video even though it can be stressful, I can say the longest process for me would have to be editing a video, the longest it has taken me to finish editing and ready to post would have been 4 days lol. Growing up and later finding out that I was diagnosed with ADHD it can be very at times to find that motivation to push me to make content but in the end, I am truly at my highest peak when it is me sharing my personality and story with the world there’s honestly nothing better than that.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a Youtuber, I have noticed a lot of other YouTubers tend to copy each other now, I’m not saying it’s bad just because you saw someone else’s video and you are like “hey I can put a twist on this and I know that could grab somebody’s attention”. I’m saying that I want to have a whole different wave, I never wanna come off as if I’m showing off what I have or even spreading hate towards others. I do YouTube to show what my life was like genuinely cause the truth is I never had access to certain opportunities like others. I’m excited to fully go through that stage in my life to where I associate with other people who share the same craft as me since I balance both YouTube second and being a graphic designer firsthand. As I mentioned earlier it was very difficult for me to go the creative route in my life, as a kid, I grew up living with my grandparents and you could say that they were very old-fashioned. The House I was in faced many challenges in some which I could get in to but truly that is a whole different story about upbringing I can say that it was very hard and to escape such hardship I had started designing as a hobby and I shared no interest in making it a career until the year 2016 when I realized that while I was making designs such as logos, wallpapers, and many more. I liked how I could communicate ideas that inspire me all through a program which there I found amazing cause I cannot draw on paper too well lol. I want the world to know if they could make space for me and I am willing to buy those first rounds of drinks lol. On a serious note, I just wanna share my take on how I perceive art and see what others could retain from it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I currently live in Maryland in the city of Bowie and personally, there isn’t much to do, I know that sounds bad but if my friend is coming into town I would have to take them out to see the views. The first place I would take them is the national harbor in Fort Washington, MD. Now the national harbor itself is a great scenery, with a beautiful pier view of the water. There are numerous activities to partake in for all ages if you ever wanna take a day to escape this is the place and I enjoy the vibe. The first stop would have to be on the Ferris wheel which is a 36 foot Americana themed carousel, a side note I have to include is I’m terrified of heights, I would 100% be against getting on such a high elevated ride. I can say as soon as I realize I’m not on flat ground I’m freaking out lol. Yet I would end up facing my fears on the ride, the view of overlooking the Potomac River would be mesmerizing. After the ride, my friend and I would be kind of hungry so I suggest we sit down at Rosa Mexicano you can’t go wrong with a margarita and authentic Mexican food. To wrap up our evening going on a mini shopping spree isn’t all bad if you know when to stop yourself but in this case, I don’t know if you could hold up that deal lol. This indeed sounds like a good fun fueled day hanging around my best friend

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my aunt Ashley I wouldn’t even have this opportunity if it wasn’t for her recommending that I take part in this to her, I say thank you and I won’t forget this moment at all. I would also like to include my parents for giving me motivation when I fell at a loss, being a graphic designer and YouTuber is a constant dog-eat-dog world there are times when I say “Am I ever good enough?”. The answer to which All art is subjective because it relies upon the opinions of its viewers. My dad would say to me that “Nothing in life is promised” at first I did brush it off as any young adult would, and follow up with “Yeah ok” but he is right the truth is anything could happen when you least expect it so why not just go for it, it’s your life its best to make sure you live it happily no matter what you are doing don’t ever let anybody spread negative energy on you. Last but not least I cannot forget about my friends, they are always willing to lend out a helping hand if I ever needed anything I know I could count on them for their support and to them, I appreciate you and I never forget those who were with me in the beginning stages.
